I fluid film my truck every fall but as for the GTI, that won’t leave the driveway in bad weather. I suggest getting a beater and driving that when salt is anywhere within eyesight.

My GTI is my winter beater. I just picked up some fluid film and spray on the underside of the vehicle.
When I put on my winter wheels, i will take off my wheel well liners and spray fluid film on the body when the saltwater from the snowy slush gets under all the lining.

Not driving in the snow months is what I do, water, snow and salt-sand are your cars enemy.
So just park the GTI or R for a few months.
