Why can't I get rid of this car?

Not sure how you get such bad mileage.

That’s like 550whp Golf R mileage.
Yup.....18-20mpg doesn't seem like anywhere close to normal. Day to day suburban driving (mix of short trips, cross-town highway runs etc) I typically average 26ish MPG. Longer runs on the interstate even cruising about 85-90 I typically get 30mpg.

Yes I understand, but three? Why?

The extremely short version is bought a 2016 GTI. Decided I wanted an R, bought a 2017 R. Decided I wanted a newer R with 60k less miles, bought a 2019 R. This was in the spam of 4 years or so.

Took my kid to the zoo yesterday...didnt dally or drive like a grandpa, but I also drove with giving people more room due to my son in the car. It's 17 mi each way and I averaged 28.6 one way and 28.2 the other.

I'd be upset over 18-20 as well... My guess is that, like my car, the coils might be an issue. At some point in late 2016 they updated the coilpacks on these cars to the nicer beru ones. I've had good results and gas mileage improved by about 4-5mpg average per tank.

When I would daily my GTI on e60 it showed 16mpg average that’s on typical to work and home drive that are around 35-40 min drives that are 12-14mile one way commutes to based on the route I take (city traffic surface roads, or city traffic on “highway” still lol). So if you consider 30% less efficient fuel selection I guess, 20 isn’t waaay off - but also my cars using much more fuel than just a stage 1 or 2 is20 car.

Now, My Apr stage 1 2013 GLI with the e888.1 would do 31mpg average! But also required me to carry coil packs in the trunk on a regular basis 😂

The displayed gas mileage is always wrong, so if it says 18-20 you're actually (somehow) doing worse than that.

I don't think I'll sell or trade the GTI, it's still super fun and the availability of (attainable)performance cars with a manual are nearly non-existent. Next car is almost certainly going to be an auto (and rwd) so I think I'll have plenty of opportunity to keep jumping back into the GTI for the MT nostalgia.

Well, it finally happened. I traded the gti for an Integra type s! I test drove the new mk8 gti, an mk7.5 r, mk8 r, rs3, g80 m3, and the Integra. On father's day my daughter was born, and with two kids, the gti just wasn't quite large enough so I needed rear seats that could fit both car seats. The type s was by far the funnest, had very reasonable room in the rear, and the only car I couldn't stop thinking about.

Certainly some things are not up to German quality in the interior, especially the plastics, but then again the new mk8 also felt way cheaper interior wise than the the mk7. The type s transmission is the second best I've used, regardless of price. It's dramatically better than the manual in the mk7 and 8. I'm also just glad to be out of a dsg. The only car better transmission wise was a lotus exige.

I will definitely miss the gti! It was a blast and the car that lasted in my garage the longest! I almost kept it, but my wife was not into the idea of having 4 cars again 🙄.

Guilty of having two car seats in my GTI with no issues. Acura does have nice transmissions. I drove a NSX once and that car remains a bucket list car for me.
