For everyone that has raced/tracked at some secluded area where it's safe to race):

From a Dig: Just keep in Sport Auto, or do you use Manual Mode?

Can't comment on doing this in a Golf, but I did a 'supercar experience' a few months ago where you drive a few supercars around a track for a few laps.

I drove an audi r8, some sort of Aston Martin and some sort of ferrari with a different instructor in each one. All 3 were auto with paddle shift. Each instructor preferred to drive it in manual. So I guess that's the 'proper' way but I suspect unless you're an experienced and very good competitive track racer, leaving it in auto sport will probably produce quicker lap times.

I used Manual mode all the time.
Sport mode is like high grade crack.... i felt like my car was going to break bc it wouldn't shift when it was getting to red line

From a dig is a tough decision as the change to second can vary wildly depending on wheel spin, at least in auto you know the car will do it when needed.

From a roll, I always use manual, you can get the right gear ready before applying throttle and then change up an little earlier to prevent wheels pin in 2nd or even 3rd.

As you know I track my .:R regularly and often. I always use the manual mode with the paddles. Couldn't really imagine to use the "S" mode and let the car shift automatically. Besides the automatic "S" mode makes laptimes slower definitely.
