Hello guys,

I bought some Dallas wheels on here and got them in 10/10 condition. So I installed them today at a local shop n they scratched the a rim when balancing the tire. Im kinda OCD sad this happened. Some shop saying since these wheels are Machined the gotta do the entire wheel for 150$. Any info helps. What y’all recommend? I might have to repair them eventually.

Get some fine grit sandpaper and metal polish and you can get these small scratches out. I had to do this with one of my Nogaro wheels. You can get some clear wheel paint if you want to cover the area.

Don't attempt it yourself unless you know what you're doing.

It's certainly repairable, but you're likely to F it up worse with a DIY. Unless you're an ace at buffing and blending I would just bring it to the wheel guy.

I have seen DIY but I dont feel confident doing them since their machined wheels. What are the usual prices to repair a wheel? or scuff like this?

Here's the deal. These are not painted. They're machined and clear coated. If you've gone through the clear coat, you can only do a mediocre repair. In that get a paint that's close to the machined silver look, and paint it then clear coat it. There are some specialist wheel repair shops that can re-machine it, but for these wheels it aint worth it. Bite the bullet and just buy a replacement wheel for $150 if that. Or learn to live with it.. Or do the repair, but it will never be 100% perfect. Again these wheels are not painted, they're machined. So you'll lose the grooves that makes for the way the light reflects on them.

I'm sorry but there's no way I'd accept a shop doing that irrespective of what I paid. If I did it myself that's a different story.
Gutted for you sir.

I was looking at it last night it doesnt seem deep like a curb rash. I can still see the “machine finish” under these marks

They were black marks on it as well but it came off with goo gone. I think thats a good idea about trying out some polish. I know it wont be 100% but to minimize this scuff would b nice.

Any polishes recommended ?

I’ll live with it for now. Im coming from Austins tht had curb rash on all 4 wheels. (previous owner)

Lmao last time a shop cosmetically damaged a set of wheels of mine I made them buy me all new wheels. And they did, TSW FF.

I had a similar experience with my Austin’s back in the day and they did resurface the whole wheel.

Not sure on price that time since the shop offered to fix it (they were upfront and showed me the damage as soon as it happened).

I paid a shop to fix curb rash on used Audi wheels I run now. IIRC it was $150 to fix two of the four and mount new tires on all of them, although they were painted so all he did was blend the damage and paint (not the whole wheel).

I had the same thing happen to my stock rims (same ones the OP has). I’ll never use a mobile tire installer again. However, the company that did this to each wheel paid for them to get fixed. A service here in the DC area called Wheels On Site came and fixed each one ~ 40min each in my driveway. Never saw the bill for it though.

TL; DR regardless of the hookup, you should complain and get this fixed. Also machining is totally not necessary.

These shops wanna charge me 150$ -120$ to repair this. They wanna do the whole wheel! I gotta do a few calls n see which shop would do some type of fix for this.

Btw how would these Dallas wheels look like if the silver part was painted to a silver alloy. Could they look good?
