What happens at 5,000 rpm?

I’ve noticed that right around 5,000 rpm the engine takes on a noticeably different sound. Anyone else notice it? Almost reminds me of when I had a prelude at the point where vtec hit.

Assuming I’m not imagining it, what’s happening at that rpm point?

In all seriousness, turn off the Soundaktor if you haven't already. Then take a listen.

Happens at 2800-2900RPM to me. Much more audible with a downpipe/exhaust.

Changes in sound are due to the VVT (Variable Valve Timing at 5k-ish) and VVL (Variable Valve Lift at 3k-ish) operating. So in essence, yeah it is VTEC kicking in yo!
