What Did You Drive Before You Drove A MKVII Golf, GTI or R?

Immediately before my 2017 GTI, I had a 2004 GTO M6 (actually still have it, in the process of selling it). I feel like I've had a lot of cars, most of them haven't been worth much:

VW's:
'66 VW Bug (manual)
'74 VW Bug (manual)
'00 VW Bug (manual - wife's car)

Notable Wagons/hatches:
'07 Focus (manual)
'05 Mazda3 (manual)
'00 E39 540iT (auto, manual wasn't an option)
'64 Ford Falcon (T-5 manual + 302)

Other "economy" cars:
'90 Honda Accord (auto)
'90 Honda CRX HF (manual)

SUV's:
'72 K5 Blazer (auto)
'91 Suburban (diesel, auto) - still have it
'00 Yukon XL (auto) - still have it
'84 Montero (manual)

Others:
'60 Dodge Dart (manual)
'87.5 Supra (auto)

My wife and I have a pretty strong preference for manuals. This GTI will be interesting.

Too many to list, but my LAST car was a 2004 Ford Expedition.
Old but had 85000 miles and was like a family member. It was totaled last January by some idiot ina Mini not paying attention on the highway.
At least I was able to get my GTI ahead of my planned schedule.

Ha. I thought that would raise some eyebrows. My wife wanted me to get something more"grown up and practical" that she could also drive. Her father is a Ford retiree and is grandfathered into the best discount plan available so I chose the fusion but hated it. Returned the lease 8 months early and opted for the MK7 GTI with a 6MT. Wife can't drive it but she hardly ever drove the fusion anyway. I was tempted by the Focus ST but the GTI was a much better car for pretty much the same price.

Yes, from the UK. I loved my 2002 16V Polo. Sold it to my uncle in '07 but it finally died a year ago. [emoji22]
