I'm surprised it didn't throw a code immediately...

On one hand, like @swcrow said, you might be able to screw it in yourself once it cools. On the other hand, if you paid a shop to install it, it should be done right without you having to fix it.
I already dropped it back off so they can work on it cold in the morning. It looks like they already have the spacer installed. I didn’t ask them to put that on, but it was in the bag with the other hardware so he must have just assumed I wanted it installed. I guess I’m not sure if I just have them leave the spacer on so I for sure don’t have a CEL, or have them take it off and I might get a cat efficiency CEL at some point and need the spacer anyway. If there’s no downside to having a spacer I may as well just leave it in. Not sure how it affects fuel trims.

That’s like an “I ran out of time” mistake for a shop to make

Replace the lowering timing cover today due to the belt breaking on the highway going 115mph. Didn’t know it fell off til I got home and opened the hood. It was my fault it had abit of oil due to the engine accessory bracket was leaking, didnt replace it on time. Pieces of the belt ruined the lower timing cover seal and created a leak. Had a bunch of white smoke tht smells horrible and a constant revving to 2k up n down idiling. New cover fixed the up n down reving. Looks like these cars have air pressure in the crank case from the pcv mayb? I changed the PCV in hopes that was fixes the issue but nope. After changing the lower timing cover the white smoke got better but is still there very very minimal with a slight strong horrible smell of burnt gases. Not sure what it is as it wasn’t happening before. I may pull spark plugs and inspect the walls. 125k stage 2 FBO

You might just have residual oil on the exhaust burning off still.

Worst case scenario, if the oil level went low enough you may have hurt the turbo & it’s leaking oil into the exhaust now.

Typically oil smoke is “blue”, but it’s really white smoke with a faint blue-ish tint.

A even worse worst case scenario would be valvetrain damage. The valve guides on these cars are junk to begin with, so without proper lubrication that could be the source of your smoke.

And of course absolutely worst case scenario would be oil control ring, ring land or cylinder wall damage. A cheap or rented borescope can rule that out.

Can confirm unfortunately

So is the original engine hurt?

How’s BBT doing with the rebuild?

Curious ballpark what a full rebuild cost including shipping the long block back and forth (l don’t have 73 hours spare time to keep up with reading your or Acadias build threads so I’m forever out of the loop around here lol)

Original engine is not hurt. Just cylinder four ring failing. Once I get the engine in and mine shipped I’ll have a better understanding for total cost.

BBT is almost finished with my build. Currently working out a plan to get the long block to my shop without my car having to sit, get my long block out to him, swap over accessories, then ship back.

It's ok, mines not worth keeping up with anyway.

Did they identify likely root causes for the failing ring?

smoke in exhaust (light), compression test and leak down test (where you could hear the air escaping through the dipstick tube), dropping the piston and bore scoping the cylinder walls which showed slight scarring.

Got this installed this morning; took about an hour or so. It took a little patience to get around the engine wiring harness because the rubber grommets are a little fiddly, but once lined up, fitment is literally perfect. I couldn't use the bracket for the Integrated Engineering SAI because of the volume of the chambers, but I'm ok with that for now.

Now I need to get rid of the APR inlet tube. I hate that weave and I only have it because it facilitated my DTR install, as the MST inlet didn't fit. I wish Samco made a "vintage black" inlet tube.

Picked up the car this morning. With the O2 sensor plugged in this time. Trying it without the spacer for now.

AFR’s look MUCH better. Cruising at highway speed at 14.5-14.7 instead of 12.0.

Maybe I’m just not used to a downpipe since it’s my first one but it gets..noisy when I’m getting into boost. Maybe 15-18psi at the manifold. Unless it’s an exhaust leak or the downpipe is vibrating against a heat shield lower down or something. Might have someone from the shop ride along for a minute to listen.
