total install time? considering
Honestly? A LOT!

But that was because I was an idiot who lost shit and an idiot with OCD.

Once I sorted that out it went much better. Second door took me a total of 45 minutes and that was because I soldered the light harness in and wrapped much of the new harness to the existing door harness.

The easier way would half been to buy the Rocketwires kit and have it plug and play.

BTW I have been out to the garage twice now in the dark just to open the door.

Have you taken off the door cards before? If so it should be pretty quick work for you.

no that's exactly what I'm afraid of, taking the door card off scares me lol

Taking the door card off is pretty easy. Buy a trim removal kit like this, and some replacement door clips, and it'll be a breeze. You can 'reset' the clips if they don't decompress when you pop them off, but it's a bit of a pain in the ass, and for $8, easier to just have replacements.

appreciate those links. surely this information will be useful if I ever decide to do this mod. it definitely looks amazing and I'm sure felt really accomplished when you were done and everything lit up nicely. nice job. $8 clips is definitely peace of mind insurance and assurance.

I have done this mod. I thought it was fairly easy. Disconnecting the door handle is the only thing I thought was annoying, but not hard by any means. I used the quick connect kit so it was really just changing/swapping hardware. The first door took longer because I was making sure I had things going correctly with the swap. I did the other door in less than half the time of the first door, but maybe that was because dinner was ready.

I’m a big fan of the 17-22 superduty body style, but the way the market is a 7.3 truck in that body style is still as much or more than a new one on X plan pricing.

I drove my F350 to work yesterday/today View attachment 311573and honestly don’t miss any modern tech or small car conveniences. It’s such a boring commute anyway (Charlotte sucks).

I’m still split right down the middle on what to do. This being the last opportunity to buy a manual GTI is putting a lot of unnecessary strain on this situation (thanks VW).
I think you've done so much to your GTI that it wouldn't make sense to get rid of it.

And if you were, i wouldn't make a lateral change, I'd go to an R at least.

But from what it sounds like, you really want that truck although yours is probably 10 times better than a new one.

Ideally, you'd add a 4th car to the stable, maybe an SQ5 for commuting/family duty. But i know that's probably not in the cards

random question, I have the same blue jack in the background. do you find that it absolutely drops the GTI way too hard unless you are extremely careful unloading it? and even then it's wayyyy scary, like you never know if it will go slow or fast? I'm thinking my jack just might be faulty
Uh, yea I guess. Have to be a little careful and do that first little bit of handle twisting somewhat carefully. It's not crazy but yea, needs some fine motor control.

Who knows the most efficient way to get the 3 bolts of the ball joint back into the control arm? just push super hard on the arm with one hand while maneuvering the bolts in alignment with the other?

Putting a jack under the rotor to lift hasnt worked well. Can't really move the assembly when it's all compressed and pushing back.

I can't remember anymore, I thought there was a hack for this I read years ago.
