How much of a difference did it make? Road noise lowered? Cheers :)
Oh yes difference is awesome, I didn’t do a Db test before and after. But based on my perception, first ride I did I was noticing the wind noise and the rolling sound of some other cars on the highway that would have normally been overkill by the hum noise. It definitely lowered the hum noise. Fyi I’ve previously retro fit the audi harmonic damper part 1K0 505 563 which also help on the hum effect. But Im still on the originals P7 and bought a set of michelin ps4s for next 2026 spring it will probably impact even more.

Change my cluster background with vcds! love it. I also retrofit an Audi 12 volt lighter dummy.

Where's the adaptation for the cluster background? I like the updated one, looks snazzy.

Value = Option 1 - Doesn't seem to do anything.
Value = Option 2 - Stock with black background.
Value = Option 3 - Red dots/red "lightspeed" look.
Value = Option Not Available
Value = Option 4 - Doesn't seem to do anything.

Fyi I have a NA Mk7.5 2021 and I think older models have a carbon background on option 3.

I’ve been extremely torn lately and apparently out of the loop around here?

Apparently @Acadia18 bought a Mk8R and @swcrow hurt his engine (never went back one page at a time enough to get a clear picture of what’s going on in either situation).

So as for me being torn, my wife has been pestering me to buy a new Mk8 GTI because;

-She knows I want one

-She knows the 2024s on lots now are the last of the manuals

-30k for a new daily is “cheap” by todays standards

-she’s accepted I’ll never change lol

But I can’t stop looking at new Super Duty’s. All I’ve thought about the last six months or so is ordering a 2025 F250 XLT Tremor package. Having my 1996 F350 has spoiled me on having room for kids and stuff doing weekend chores, and with my typical weekend being longer than my typical work week the GTI has sat more often than not.

My current Mk7 & F350 (9 and 28 years old respectively) both have 145k miles.

I really don’t want to sell anything, nor do I need to, but she’s not very receptive of me buying a new anything and not selling something to make room for it.

So what would you nerds do? Keep my poverty spec 2016 GTI in all its poor mans track day/daily glory? Keep the pristine F350 time capsule / weekend ride / camper tow rig (we towed about 3,000 miles with it this year).

My brain is racing because three kids take 10x more time/money/energy than two kids somehow & I’m actively working towards spending less time working on stuff and more time just doing stuff with them. My current two vehicles are not exactly your common father of three top pick, so honestly without even intending to I drive my wife’s XC90 far more than either of them (which also annoys her).

As a note, I’m not interested in anything other than what’s listed at all. No SUV or half ton truck, no mini van. I should probably go to bed, but yeah. Wheels are turning.

Well, either way it's the devil you know

Get the sense that the truck makes more sense for you/your family hauling space. Beyond that the dub is an easier toy that's kinda sorta bout as doneish as these things get....

And it sounds like you wanna get the heavy metal... :D

Honestly, I’m replacing the engine because I don’t want a new car payment. In this economy, I want as little debt as I can get. Your GTI is right where you want it. It would cost me thousands to get a new car right where I want it.

That’s a good reason, and far better than waiting for it to blow up (and not have a good core).

I figure if buy a Mk8 (30k ish) & return my car back to stock (maybe leave the is38 and FMIC, but everything else back to OEM & Mk8 tires/wheels) I can sell it for 10k.

My “built” transmission would be part of the part out, as a stock replacement is cheap enough. I already have a buyer and back up buyer for it without listing it so figure a significant net gain there as well.

99% of my existing Mk7 mods would go on the Mk8, and I’d use it for production parts development.

So in the end I’d be out of pocket about the same as building a long block for the Mk7, and have the more linear Evo power curve & new car smell.

I’m not 100% sold on doing this, because frankly I love my Mk7 the way it is and would rather have a new truck. We’ll see. I’m just ready to change things up one way or another.

Definitely the least scary option keeping what I have.

You’re correct, my heart is set on the new truck, but I can’t see spending that much to not daily it (and I’ve always had a VW daily to keep mileage of whatever truck I’ve owned since 2006).

Would be a big culture shock going from practical economy car for almost 20 years to one of the least fuel efficient vehicles on the market today.

I’ve got 2 coworkers with those big tremor package trucks and both seem to love them, if I was in your shoes and wanting/needing a truck - I would def. Sell the OG and just get the new one you’ve been wanting… and keep the GTI as fun play car, an mk8 GTI is rather lateral when it’s all said and done (aside from looks, thats a downgrade ?)

I’m of the 2% at the office that has little vehicles ?

I’m impressed that 100% of your workforce backs in.

I definitely think less of anyone who doesn’t, and while the majority of my co workers get it there’re always at least a few pulled in & crooked.

As for the parallel move I agree for the most part. The Mk7 is definitely peak aesthetics, but having good OEM headlights & DCC are a few things I wouldn’t mind after 9 years in a poverty spec car.
