Trying to get an organized set of track/auto-x tools and stuff and found out these Dewalt boxes are friggin perfect for the hatch size of the GTI.. can stack the drawer unit on top of a rolling box if you have the seats down:

... or you can keep the seats up, move the drawer unit to the floor sideways, and you can still fit another shallow case on top of the large rolling box:

Need to acquire a few more dedicated "cheap" tools and some foam inserts to cut out and then that'll make it so I never need to unload my normal tools. Just throw these boxes in the car + helmet + folding chairs etc and go.

For all I know, after 80k miles, mine could be shredded as well. What made you check/switch?
I had terrible wheel hop at the drag strip and wanted to try something stiffer. I had also heard about the shedding after a while. I think I had 60k on it.

I also ran it without an upgraded engine and trans mounts for most of the time it was installed, and I think that shortened its lifespan.

Several of you know me outside the forum and have heard I'm moving to the greater Cleveland area. It costs $3500 to ship a car from here to Ohio so I sadly sold my minty fresh Mk4 TDI to an A&P mechanic on Oahu. Today I ran all the spare Mk4 parts I had to his container in Kona.

Since it takes 3-4 weeks to get a car to the mainland from here I started looking for another daily/project. I had basically given up hope when last night my dad sent me a one of my dream cars, a 2007 GTI Fahrenheit. The ad included some vague pictures and not much info so I expected a slew of issues. Since it was only 20 minutes from my parents I asked my dad to check it out for me. It turned out to be a meticulously kept accident free original owner car with 206,000 miles! (He had a long commute). Needless to say I bought it. I'll be flying into Tampa on 8/16 and will be roadtripping up the east coast in it. I'd love to get a small group together for the dragon while I pass through.

I wouldn’t be too concerned, at 131k I checked mine (while the transmission was out) & all was good.

Do you remember using lubricant of any kind when it was originally installed?

Being the two small pieces I could see over flexing them on install being harder on them than running without the engine & transmission mounts.

Hawk Thua jokes incoming if I know these forums lol

I’m pretty sure I did use lubricant when I installed it, I’m not sure I would have been able to get it in otherwise.

In connection to my “what did I get in the mail” post for the door drivers, and spent some time working on fitting the cheap ebay pillar pods to the oem pods. Still plenty work do to with resin, glass, filler and more cutting and shaping in the back side after it’s resined and hard, but so far so good with not the crazy hours of work needed for fully custom pods, sure aiming won’t be perfect but should still do well for now, and will still utilize the factory mounts and the “breakaway” clips to let the bags out as I made sure to keep the pods below the bag point.

Fitted, and fleeced.

Also was test fitting in and out of the car as I was mounting so that it would be were I can actually install them back in after it’s all done.

It a sauna in here while it bakes in the Vegas sun lol

The good news is they both fit in with enough clearances and not over obstructive of the drivers view

Side note - does anyone have a link to where to get the factory apillar fabric 😅 I’ve seen some use speaker grill cloth that’s looks pretty close, and I’m not sure I want to do something like alcantara cause then I’ll need to commit to that for the headliner and such.

Nice tool transport!

I recently went the Husky "Build-Out" route. I have no back seat; so, mine are inside the driver's side rear door on my rear seat delete...

If you look closely, you'll see that I screwed a lid from an extra box to the wooden deck. The lid provides a base on which to stack the boxes. Sure, it cut about 1.5" from the overhead clearance, but I still fit plenty... plus, more if I opt to add some to the trunk. One of the boxes is a perfect fit for Husky's 270-piece Build-Out tool kit, which costs less than $200...

Two of the boxes are for small bits, this one being for rooftop tower repairs while away from home...

I have another set of boxes, including a bottom/roller, to support my outings as a bicycle tour mechanic. Speaking of the rooftop tower, I was at a pair of ham fests (radio nerds) over the weekend and managed to get this shot from atop a grandstand...

The car looks like a model toy! It's always amazed me how some are able to take photos of their car and have it look fake or like a toy. Here, I've done it, but have no idea how. HAHA!

Take Care!

I don't care what licenses the gentleman has... I am calling authorities of some type if I see that thing around me.
Of course, it has to be assumed that call will be intercepted/routed through that relay station and my location pinpointed... you know what... carry on @StealthGTI, I don't want any problems .
