In my case it's the rear diffuser, so that might be different construction. Tbh I might still get the side skirts :x

edit: alright so the rear diffuser is indeed aluminum, so that explains that. I may reach out again a bit later to see where we're at. And I remember why I was on the fence about the side skirts now, you can't run them with the factory splash guards :(
I have the competition rear diffuser and it's mostly metal. The only plastic is the fins, presumably so they're easily replaceable.

Im confused, I thought aluminum was an "inferior product" that "requires inconsistent paint or powder coating that WILL crease and chip"

....thier words not mine.

I of course think it's absurd that a company that sells you a flat piece of plastic for $300 would call metal an inferior product to thier plastic and then sell you the metal anyways.

I need to know where you got these, did they come with your jackstands?
These guys from the Bezos Company Store. They've held up very well with minimal wear or signs or permanent set after about 12 uses. The jack stands were also from Amazon. The cushions are oversized and should fit any stands of that style

Yeah, I'm a big weenie so I bought the street one, but I was/am pleased enough with the front splitter and like the relatively subtle look.

Rally armor ftw
As it is my factory splash guards scrape if I exit our driveway in not just the right way, but I like the look. I really considered/haven't entirely given up the thought of notching them with like a dremel or similar to cut a little space for the sideskirts to sit.

Yeah, I'm not certain on that one. I dunno, I like the aesthetic of their stuff, more than some of the other companies out there that have a bubble-letters style to their body options. Either way, I guess I can't complain too much, it's not like the car is undrivable. I brought it to work today to flex just a little on one of the newer guys

Worked on getting my cheap Amazon paint booth together. I say worked on it because it is this tent with flexible poles- type assembly. I am not good at this lol and it apparently is a two person job. Anyway, it is halfway together.

Also found the source of my intermittent SAI "insufficient flow" fault code and CEL. Cracked pipe leading to the combi valve. Gorilla taped it up to see if that solves the issue - don't feel like spending $150 plus on such an inconsequential pipe if I can help it.

Happy to report the CEL hasn't returned and the SAI pump definitely sounds different on cold starts now. I'm pretty optimistic that my $5 Gorilla Tape fix did the trick lol.

Feels good to be dailying the GTI again for a change - still brings a smile to my face even 10 years later (my car celebrated its 10th birthday on June 2nd! 🤯), and even relative to the RS3. Wild how good the MK7 was (and still is).

Mine is a 17', has 114k miles and makes me smile every time I drive it. The last 3k have been IS38 swapped and re-tune and now the smiles are just bigger. Looking forward to being my daily again. I'll share some comments from friends that do not have GTI's that have been for a ride:

How?
Bro !
wtf !!
That's not normal.
She really moves !
How many tickets have you gotten?
4th gear and triple digits?, what do you do with 5th and 6th? (love that one..lol)
This is faster than my Scat
You could gap my STi
I'm trading my shit tomorrow for one of these. (love that one too)
Where do you go to use 5th and 6th? The desert? (same commenter mentioned above)

Lol yep. 162k miles here, IS38 for the last 55k. Honestly the way it should come from factory - really wakes the whole car up and gives you usable power at the upper end of the powerband where the IS20 loses steam. If you aren't already running one, I strongly recommend and upgraded intercooler as well - helps deal with the extra heat and keeps the car feeling super consistent even on the hottest days.

On a similar note, I drove the Golf to work, ~50 miles round-trip and 90% freeway. It gets about 19mpg cruising at 75. Rides great, and the Unitronic catted downpipe clawed back a lot of refinement lost by the Trackslag. Uni DP into the Remus and this thing actually sounds good, valves open or closed.

Want to shoutout the Ringer Racing Stage 4 clutch and 23-lb flywheel. Really a nice feeling clutch from mile one. The SMF gives the car a cool character and is still totally usable and drivable. The flywheel was the point in the build I was most worried about affecting daily drivability, but there was no need.

This thing still works as a Golf! I can't stop driving it, the Cayman is sitting. It's so fast, it puts the power down like a monster, it's still fairly refined, still changes modes and its character like the stock car. And all I wanna do is look at it. Mk7 forever.
