rubber boot for the bottom of the metal so it doesnt slip.
True. My jack isn't really a pad, it's a U jack so I can probably rig up a thru-bolt or something at the bottom of the unistrut to rest on the teeth. Maybe strap that down too for added safety.

And i don't know how to weld or solder, so this is the best i could come up with based on what i have on hand.

Unfortunately i don't have a thin 10mm to hold the bottom nut, but I've never had issues before. I guess shop cranked it down last time i had pcv changed.

When I did my plugs I was very concerned about this happening. I had one coil ground where the top nut and stud bold were moving together with the ground lug wanting to go for the ride. I found an old flat wrench that must have come with an item I needed to assemble (I save everything tool related) that could fit under the ground lug and hold the bolt while I removed the top not. No help to you at this point, but perhaps anyone else who encounters this.

I tackled this job last week and If I may suggest something. Use this instead of a piece of wood. This was also my first time doing a suspension job on my car and im glad I didnt use a piece of wood.

You can find unistrut at Home Depot ot Lowes for cheap too. Just be careful, even though it's steel, it tends to be mild steel. I have seen in bend and/or crack in certain instances.

There’s a whole generation of people making a culture of hack BS for what’s a very simple job with $12 worth of lifetime warranty hardware and a $20 strut spreader that’ll last a lifetime.

I get it, not everyone is a professional technician, but it’s far from difficult to just do VWs maintenance procedures.

Yeah. I noticed them turning together. So i thought i flipped the switch to reverse on my powered screwdriver, but apparently didn't & it ripped it right off.

And i can normally hold the bottom but with needlose vice grips but couldn't find them. Tried needlenose pliers so i could at least do the others and change pcv. That didn't work.

Oh well, i got some slim wrenches & I'll just wait for the grounding kit to come to do everything at once

I ran a Liqi Moly engine flush through her and changed the oil. I put some ceratec in with the new oil; I don't know if it will do anything.

Even my "ignition" wrenches were not low profile enough. A very slim fit.

Yikes. Might have to look through all my ikea wrenches to see if there's a 10mm lol
