And what can only be described as an hour of patience and insanity mixed with stubbornness... Decided I would try to use the tabs on that new emblem which means a lot of dremel work.
All the holes are too large but best to start inboard and work your way out to the edges. You can always take off more material but you can't add it. I'd say 95% of what I need to remove has been removed.
I'll be able to retain the three original clips that hold the grill pieces together. And the new emblem still won't sit completely flush. That would pretty much require removing all of the plastic backing for the original emblem. It's looking like I'm going to have a gap of somewhere under 1/8 of an inch all the way around. The picture shows more gap than will exist at the end. I still have some more clearancing to do.
I'll tape it off and do some black plastic weld or epoxy to fill the gap. In my mind I'll justify that as keeping water away from the camera even though water doesn't really get in there. And even though I'm using the clips plastic weld makes one feel good about the security of anything you're trying to hold together.
