What did you do to your mk7 today?

Removed everything in the rear today & washed the MK7. Seats were easy. Trims were tricky but not hard. My first time removing trims in any car and I was having a blast. Broke one plastic clip and a plastic pin that snapped. Took me about 3-4 hours removing everything and washing the car after. Did all this to chase a leak I been dealing with leaving my car always humid for almost 2 years & leaving water stains in the headliner. Turned out to be the antenna. If you look at the photo I attached you'll see a bubble of water about to drip off the ceiling.

Overall, the exhaust note in the cabin sounds so much louder and the weight reduction on stage 2 93 feels like it pulls much easier. I"m thinking if it worth it to sound proof everything while gutted.

glad you found it! leaks can be annoying.

My vent seals failed a couple years ago, water everywhere. I did the soundproofing while I had everything removed, makes a big difference. although it is heavy, if weight reduction is important to you.

New ER10's to replace the ER12's. I change them every oil change and wanted to try something different. Was gonna try the APR plugs but they are $30/plug and are 2 steps colder, figured it's more or less the same as the ER10 but $40/4 😬

The always controversial spark plug photo. About 4K miles.

What are you, overpaid? Why change plugs so often?

I'm paranoid 😬 Plus Silver plugs don't last as long as iridium/whatever other material. Plus it's like $40/4.

Finally got around to installing a new starter motor. The one on the car had 155k miles on it and was original since 2014. It had been cranking noticeably slower over the last few years, but never failed on me. New starter is a total night and day difference though - made me realize just how weak the old one was. Super easy to swap too - took me about 45 mins start to finish, including cleaning things up and putting tools away lol.

I'll second this, if you're not into and timed racing soundproofing is the way to go. I'm buying the material now, I don't know if it is me, but the car has gotten louder after it hit 50k miles. And I can tell most noise comes from the rear of the car, the front can use some material too, but that is a little too complicated for now. The rear is easier to do.

I third the sound treatment advice... Makes a big difference and unless you are really serious about audio I can't imagine where one finds the motivation to remove the interior just for sound treatment. But this should be the case study for "while I'm in there" jobs.

As for me, upgraded from PLA 2 to PLA 3. Went form part number 5Q0 919 298 K to 5QA 919 298 D. I have the PLA 3 dataset for later software (298K) but can't find the software . I already had 12 sensors, and PLA 2 uses them for parallel parking but doesn't show anything on screen for them. PLA 3 gives you 12 zones, plus simulated side zones based on what the sensors previously detected so you get faux 360 degree OPS.

The purple maneuver braking symbol is because I took the pictures before coding the ABS for PLA 3, that has been corrected. Tested parallel parking and backing in, works great. Tried the head-in parking but could not get it to engage, thinking I have the sequence/timing wrong. Also tried the backing out of a space which worked, and is pretty neat.

Edit: Turns out the purple (in this pic, but color matches ambient lighting color) symbol maneuver braking is correct to show the system is active. It turns gray when above a certain speed. Or when turned off from the menu. I had not coded the ABS for it at the time but no change in how it looks. And I tested it with a couple empty cardboard boxes... works!

Dusty screen is dusty...

Prepped for a road trip to north Georgia and the Tail. Inspected brakes, new brake fluid, checked oil, checked coolant, checked spare tire inflation, checked tires, greased and lubed stuff, blah blah blah blah. Ready to roll next week.

Putting together a small tool bag with tools for changing spark plugs, removing catch can, and tightening end links. Just in case. Plus a handful of other multi-use tools, jumper cables, and an inflator. It all tucks nicely below the hatch floor inside the spare.

I never feel like I need to do all of this when we take the RAV4 on a trip 🤣. #DasAuto

I've learned to keep some spare lug bolts and an extractor drill.

Sooooo, not exactly today, but

Recently picked up a 2021 GTI mk7.5, Dark Iron Blue Metallic, 18,000 miles, 7 speed DSG, Performance Pack and a spiffy set of the black Pretoria wheels (wrapped in the crappy all season Pirelli P7's).

I've been reading a TON (including the owners manual), especially to answer some of my questions after the ride home! I've already purchased & installed a Cobb AccessPort and putting the new OBDEleven unit to work coding out the annoyances. The AP is just a v2.00 Stage 1 map for now so I can have a bit of fun and do some logging to be sure all is well. I'll add the DSG tune bit later on.

Some history for ya- this is my second GTI!
I'm an older gent (57) and have owned lots of cars over the years, but the "boosted" history follows a path that started with a GTI-
-MK4 GTI - APR stage 1 tuned with some other bolt on bits and even got one of the 337 front chin spoilers before the price skyrocketed!

-Audi A4 3.0 6cyl for about a year (no forced induction here, just added some Magnaflows and it was a glorious sounding highway cruiser)

-Mazdaspeed 6- ohhhhh man, still miss this one! A bolted, tuned AWD badass :) Cobb AP tuned, e85 and really, just a stupid amount of fun to drive. Alas, bad hips & arthritis forced me to sell it for something with an A/T...

-And the previous daily, a 2009 135i running an MHD stage 1+ tune and a xHP stage 3 trans tune along with a bunch of hardware goodies. Boldly attempting to put just over 400 horses to the ground on a daily basis. The thing is a thug! And will be great fun on the weekends now... :)

Welcome! Best color option for the mk7.5 imo although I may be biased.

Brought the aluminum car trailer back from Ohio, hopefully to stay this time. Needs some TLC, it is 30+ years old, but the price was right.

One step closer to taking the GTI up to VIR for a track day, although with another kid on the way that’s a bit optimistic.

At the very least I’ve got recovery & part out capability’s now.
