Finally got around to doing my rear brake upgrade to stoptech sport rotors and pads, and got the roof and front bumper trim wrapped [emoji1362]

Roof looks great! What exactly did you get wrapped on the front bumper?

Spent all day installing and attempting to adjust a Dieselgeek Sigma Six short shift kit, along with Dieselgeek shifter bushings and a Raceseng Sphereology shift knob. I just couldn't get the Sigma Six to a place where it felt right so I put the stock shift kit back in.

The Raceseng knob improved the stock shifter feel so much, I might not bother with a short shift kit at all.

I'm running the same shift knob, it's awesome. I also spent the better part of a day getting the dieselgeek short shift kit adjusted. Even got on the phone with them about it. I was able to get it to feel right in 1-6 but the knob would not "lock down" in reverse. The problem I had was that the pin provided to put the shifter in the home position didn't precisely place the shifter, it allowed too much play. When I installed the sigma 5 on my Mk4 the shifter was basically immobile with that pin in it... not the case on my Mk7. In the end I did the adjustment to the shift cables without pinning the shift knob at all and I got everything adjustedwithin 15 minutes. This was after spending 3 to 4 hours trying with the pin, so frustrating.

To be honest I still sometimes feel like the adjustment could be better but I haven't had any complaints from my wife who drives the car occasionally and I didn't have any from my sister and she came in town and drove the car for about a week. See hadn't driven a manual in years, not since she had a Ford Explorer sport in the early 2000s, haha. At some point I would like to find a shop with VW modification experience and have them do an adjustment from scratch, see if they can improve on what I was able to do.

The lower silver trim that wraps across the bumper close to the bottom. The silver trim of the grill was already plastidipped previously, so the only remaining pieces up front were the lower bumper, and the headlights which I won’t disassemble.

Thanks :)

Ready to race!
Pretty big day today for the car! The weather was beautiful and the rain held off for the entire time I had to work on the car. My wife even chipped in and helped me put on the TredWear lettering!! Here’s some pics:

Spoiler shots

Added an R logo in the middle of the bridge spoiler

The new royal blue Mode paddle shifters arrived and the color is perfect!!! Also installed most of the BadgeSkins around the car to add those little blue touches.

And, my favorite piece, and probably will be the most controversial piece, but the one my wife helped me with (gotta love her):

Ran out of time, but this is going on the opposite side of the tires. I wanted to give it time to fully cure anyway before rolling the tires to add the Golf R portion.

I still have the BadgeSkins for the front brake calipers that I need to put on. Maybe tomorrow while we are doing the Golf R TredWear.

Wow that looks great! Can you teach me how you got the (stock?) boot to line up so nice to the base of the knob? I love that look.

I have a Raceseng knob on my daily driver and it is a fantastic knob.

I like the blue accents. But not sure about the R emblem on the spoiler, and the tire lettering. But to each his own.

Visor decal looks to be peeling a bit on one corner. Might need to apply some heat.

the blue looks really good in my view. the car in general looks great, so much better than black wheels with the gray.

BabblingBafoon- Oh noes, not the tires! Your car looked great in the before shot.

Like I said, the tire lettering is controversial. The first time I saw a car with it, it reminded me of a Hot Wheels life size car and I loved it.

For those that don’t like it, it is temporary since the tires don’t last forever. I may decide not to do it on my next set, or I may even go with white next time. But I love it (wish it was a slightly darker blue though).

On the R emblem on the spoiler, I’m not 100% committed and may remove it… we’ll see.

I'm very happy with the Raceseng knob. I really liked the dimpled surface of the stock shift knob, so I was leaning towards one of the BFI knobs initially. In the end, I decided that more weight mattered more to me than tactile feel. I had also read several reviews that took issue with the long-term build quality of their BFI knobs. This is my first aftermarket shift knob on any car I've owned, and it's amazing to me how much the shifting feel is cleaned up by the knob's weight. I may end up going with something like the Boomba short shift adaptor to shorten the throws, though.

I secured the shift boot with painters tape. I didn't have loctite for the adaptor screws, so I attached the boot in a way that it would hold for the time being, but be easy to remove in the near future. I taped the boot to the adaptor so that the fold at the top of the boot (the part closest to the shift knob) was a little higher than where it needed to be in order to be flush with the base of the core. When the I screwed the core on, it pushed the shift boot down a bit, and ended up perfectly flush.

I'll have to re-secure the boot to apply loctite to the adaptor screws, and I don't know whether this method will work with the Raceseng ziptie, though. I may combine the painters tape with the ziptie and see if I get the same results. Hope this is useful to you.

Thanks for the info youngkibear. Maybe gaffer tape or even aluminum tape might be a more permanent solution vs the painter's tape but that's a good way to hold the boot up. I'll have to give this a try.

The whole concept of the Golf-R is a more mature and toned down theme. If that was a CTR, probably looks consistent to its wild shape. Anyway I like your choice in wheels for your car color.

Completely agree. If I had an R I would take off the few badges it does have to make it even more of a sleeper.
