I put those on a while back and it made a NIGHT and DAY difference with my idle and overall performance and since then I havent had one misfire! The forum SUPER HERO who knows it all! Lmao....

That was the smartest thing to come out of ur mouth since the last blk cock! Attaboy Derhase!

IDN maybe ur just stupid or something? Well, ya know what John Wayne said about being stupid!

Easy there, he’s already used up his daily quota for “more than 2 syllable” words for the day. Gotta give that big brain a rest.

Thanks @jay745

@Deanjet sorry about the derailment.

If you can relocate your oil cooler behind the pass fog light area or add a duct similar to what we had fabricated for @Redslaya that would be a step in the right direction.

The trans doesn’t throw off as much heat, so might be able to get away with it remaining as is if it is more to the driver side.

Got any pics by chance? Bumper on and off if possible?

I’ve yet to have any problems with the DSG with no coolers even in 90F heat. Bare minimum I’d consider removing that cooler (or relocating behind the driver side fog light) and moving the oil cooler as far towards center as possible. Will still throw some heat off to the cooler stack, but our street testing showed about a 50% drop in IATs just moving the oil cooler from pass side to centered.

I do not expect it to maintain that efficiency difference completely on track when the oil cooler is throwing more heat, that was where the duct came in to keep the heat buildup from becoming a self fueled cycle of cooling system hell.

I was thinking of doing an oil cooler but getting the R bumper and placing it off to the side since I have a non R.

Not anytime soon, but that would be the plan

Do you think that would be a good solution?

That would really probably be the ideal solution. Add the R vented fender liners as well, and make sure to seal/duct the cooler to the bumper opening as best as possible.

This is a really good build thread to reference for inspiration. I am curious about the tracks where they ran it (speeds, avg TPS% etc) using only a 16 row cooler and not getting hot - even the 19 row is borderline at VIR if you wanted to do >20 min sessions in @Redslaya ’s car, I’d still want a 19 row minimum. @Pacific German1 hasn’t been on the forum in ~4yrs. Would be neat to get data on their car for reference to add to the collection.

That's my plan next year. R bumper. Oil cooler on p. side.

I talked to a guy doing endurance racing in their GTI, iirc he did stock intercooler, all of the rads, and just swapped out the DSG cooler for the RS3 one. I'm astounded that would make a difference, especially for endurance, but he swore by it.

If it's anything near stock power level, that would explain a lot honestly (for engine temps). Interesting on the RS3 cooler. Might have to keep that in mind/test in the future.

What series do they run in? This platform is about the last thing I'd ever choose for endurance racing. Horrible heat problems, poor fuel economy on track, small fuel tank, complicated electrical stuff...

I think the car ran in Britcar Endurance Championship/Trophy as well as the 750 MC Club Enduro Championship? He (Luke Handley) posted in the VWRacers group a couple years ago when he mentioned they had added the DQ500 cooler. I believe this is the same car, but with another year or so of work added:

https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/Details/138464/area-motorsport-golf-mk7-championship-winning

Looks like it eventually went to an HPA FR450 and their intercooler, and they did about as much as you can do to convert a chassis into a TCR replica without the v-mount stack.

Interestingly, it seems he had a another endurance car built elsewhere before this one, though they don't mention what they did for cooling: https://motion-motorsport.co.uk/mk7-golf-endurance-build/

What is the DQ500 cooler....external or a larger heat exchanger on top?

it's the heat exchanger on top of the trans. I'm baffled that it made a big enough difference to be worthwhile, but it kept that dq250 going for a while. p/n 0BH-317-019-F

I’ll have to double check the coolant flow diagram, I have it saved somewhere. But I would imagine adding the auxiliary R DSG cooler so that coolant flows through the cooler before entering the trans exchanger would help a lot (I would hope this is how it functions from the factory). I like that it would also be an OEM solution without any real fitment issues (aside from a needed SAI delete for DSG GTIs). Minimal pressure drop since not running straight DSG fluid such a long length, plus if you’re running straight water in your cooling system, that lessens the potential of slippery shit on track should something bad happen.
