Would this help with pitting? I live in a desert, my windshield is pitted all over.

yes!..but you may need to use it with a DA polishing machine instead of hand polishing....

So I’ve cleaned the windscreen with every household degreaser I could find in Sainsbury’s, got a bit p’eed off and used a bit of diluted bleach... and the windscreen is spanking clean apart from that portion again. Now it’s turned into a rainbow coloured sort of patch...
Do you reckon I need to use the DA on it?

Looks like a glass coating or ceramic that was applied correctly(left to dry and not buffed off leaving a "high spot"). You will have to polish it off with a DA or take it to a detailer you trust.

I'd try a bit of toothpaste on a rag (keep it wet) and see if that helps (toothpaste is a mild abrasive). Otherwise I'd look at a specialist glass polish (as others have advised - cerium oxide)

Try #0000 steel or brass wool, with soapy water. Do not use dry. Non-abrasive metal polish is another option.

The OP last posted on 16th November so I guess they’ve cleaned it off already or given up!

I would go for the expensive Saint-Gobain instead of the Mexican crap I got from Pueblo.

My Saint-Gobain was far less in cost than Virtro OEM or Vitro non-OEM glass. Around $365 installed. Pilkington and Fuyao are also available cheaply and are generally okay. I would never take Vitro glass again.

The Saint-Gobain has experienced some pitting, but definitely less than the Vitro did in much less time. It has definitely held up better when getting hit with pebbles on the road.

Good to hear. Now I need to find where they have SG glass in the greater LA area.
