VW Golf GTD - Sound and Sport pack with Milltek Rear Twin Exit Fitted

Hello all,

Just had the Milltek Rear Exhaust section fitted to my GTD @ AMD Essex.

Because I have the Sport & Sound pack fitted, I have the active exhaust with front silencer only and the external sound actuator fitted (see other thread for pictures). I wanted to retain this.

http://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8133

I spoke with Ben @ AMD and we opted to only fit the rear Milltek section. This still needs the OEM GTI valence due to twin outlet when fitted.

Note, this is an aesthetic modification only with no change in the standard exhaust tone. I can turn the external sound actuator on/off with the 'Sport' setting. I'm very happy with the new look, the fitment and great service from AMD.

:D

Fantastic!

A couple of questions, is the sound changed at all from the oem exhaust note and can I be cheeky and ask how much this cost?

Looks very tidy and unique for the GTD. Quality. I would also be interested in a cost breakdown?? Did AMD supply all the parts or did you have to source some of them yourself, for example the valance.

Just noticed you have no rear boxes with theses pipes, would this currently fail the UK mot test in this configuration ?? If so would you need to switch to stock to get it though ??

Hi guys,

The OEM valence direct from VW dealership was approx £74.

The Milltek parts and fabrication costs £519 including VAT of which £130 for labour and fabrication of the join. You'll note it wasn't a simple sleeve that I opted for. I also added a Pipercross Panel Filter @ £36 inc VAT.

Milltek GTI Twin Rear Section @ £175
Milltek GTI GT100 Tail Pipes (x2) @ £148
Fabrication and Labour @ £110
Total Cost exl. VAT £433
VAT £ 86
Total Cost incl. VAT £519
OEM VW GTI Valence @ £ 74
Total Cost for job £693

The Milltek Systems can be broken down into component parts but you have to source via Milltek dealer (in my case AMD in Essex). I also chose AMD due to using them before and also they now fabricate exhausts themselves and could do a good job on the centre join.

I know the overall job is not cheap but I wanted a professional fitment keeping the rear OEM valence and great looking car...and it's a one-off, not sure if unique but not seen another one like it yet :)

Now, if you don't have the sound actuator you can get the whole Milltek system fitted for approx £747 (plus valence if you go twin GTI style) or 10% discount if you fit it yourself.

In respect to rear boxes, this is not an MOT failure...note my car has the Sport & Sound pack and so it has the Active exhaust with no rear silencer and the external sound (speaker) actuator.

This is my issue with not being able to fit a 'standard' Milltek system - resonated with silencer or non-resonated without silencer. My car still has the standard front silencer fitted and sound actuator. The DPF does all the restricting of the engine and the exhaust note. I believe there are DPF removal options for MK6 but they need Stage 2 re-map too. I've not noticed any real change in exhaust tone with just the rear pipes but didn't expect to in 'Normal' mode but outside the car maybe different. The panel filter free the car up too and changes the induction note on hard throttle slightly. I can't try 'Sport' mode at the moment as my Discovery Media system has died on me - waiting for dealer to look on 19th! Fitting a whole Milltek exhaust would be different - you do get a nice grunt from that. So you guys without the Sound and Sport pack have an easier choice - resonated or not (louder!!) and single exit or twin GTI....

The speaker is separated from the main exhaust and stays cold. No hot exhaust gases pass through it. It feeds its noise into the main 'hot' exhaust flow that is exiting the rear of the car.

I see it is not directly in line but can back pressure and heat go back up tube to speaker location? I know speaker may also be spaced back and seperate from pipe.

Have never seen this in an exhaust. Thanks.

I feel like that would only happen when the vehicle is turned off, otherwise the constant exhaust gases coming from the engine would be pushed out and not really have a chance to be pushed back because the engine is always producing enough flow to push the gases out.
