5 over, don't want to give my money to the man! Back roads are more fun anyway.

Back in the late 80's I was living in Germany. Back then, most of the Autobahn was unrestricted speeds with speed limits generally only when you got close to larger cities or where there always was congestion. I drove a Jaguar XJ-12HE, then a XJS 12HE and a Corvette. In the early 90's I drove a Typhoon. 150mph wasn't a big deal at times (although the Typhoon had a hard stop at 123mph - scary to hit that limiter the first time as the engine/power steering/brakes go away until the car slows and the engine restarts).

I was back in the states for an investigation and took the time to interview for a position. Part of the interview process was a psychological exam. There were two questions that I still remember as finding hilarious. The first was "do you like tall women?" (as opposed to what? bearded midgets - I'm also 6'4", so "tall" is relative) and the second (that pertains to this discussion) was "do you like to drive fast?" It was another yes/no question (fill in the little oval with the supplied #2 pencil)

How do I answer that? Yes, I like to drive fast , but it was also legal where I lived and drove -- or do I give the "US politically correct answer" and say "no".

Used to drive 5-10 over but got Statefarm drive safe and save device and if I go 7 over it dings my score so now I have to accelerate, brake, and take turns MUCH slower... I’m basically neutered in my GTI to driving like a Prius now. But hey lower insurance and not getting a ticket is nice. Kinda sucks I don’t get to experience my car like I want to but I guess I’m a better driver and not in a hurry like everyone else these days. 😶

I hear the Toyota Yaris has about as much room as a GTI - you might also be able to find a nice Yugo

We need front/back video evidence.

Sorry, no dash cams installed to incriminate myself. It may not be impossible to hold the wheel, a phone, and work the shifter and handbrake all at the same time. I'll see what I can do.

I'll typically go 5 or 10 over on local freeway. I'll go to Vegas, Mammoth, and Monterey every year and I'll just set my cruise control to 85 on the open highway sections. I don't make these long drives in my GTI though. The average speeds on the freeways have gone up since the Covid. The speed on the 405 is like 90 nowadays due to the lighter traffic.

In Las Vegas, people speed like Mad Max. 20 over the speed limit during the evenings and maybe 15 over during the day. HWP is pretty lenient in certain parts. Certain areas don't even have monitoring or are unenforced. Can't say where though :p

At the beginning of COVID, when many were staying home, Maryland State Police was reporting that the majority of speeders they were stopping were going in excess of 100mph. Now, speeds are limited by traffic - which is almost back to "normal"
