Looking to order from local dealer and asked if the above came with rear independant suspension or torsion beam.

All the press info I can find is cars with engines over 120 bhp get fully independant ... but that's from press releases not official VW.

1.2 gets torsion beam which they say is ( slightly inferior ) and I know the 1.4 140 BHP gets independant but no one including dealer can confirm what 1.4 122 bhp gets ?

Any one know ?

I have one mk7 122 TSI "Masters" Sportswagon as it's called in Sweden (Estate). It has independent rear suspension. I'm very sure, since it looks very similar to my Gorl R rear axle :). Of cause the R have 4wd but that's something different....

Thanks - still be good to verify UK spec

http://recombu.com/cars/reviews/volkswagen-golf-estate-review-2014

the rear suspension design fitted to the Golf Estate depends on the power rating of the engine. Above 120bhp, a multi-link setup allows all four wheels to react to the road independently, while slower cars receive a twist-beam rear end that is only semi-independent in its movements.

That the wheelbase has been stretched by 50mm certainly helps, and so does that 100kg weight saving. The new chassis – here with a multilink rear axle, which is replaced by a less sophisticated torsion beam in cars packing less than 120bhp

Dissapointed in the forum response but did what I should have done first time round - went to the people that build the cars see response below

Thank you for taking the time to talk with me, regarding the Volkswagen Golf Estate suspension. Please accept my apology for the
delay in my response.

I can confirm after speaking with our Technical Support Team the Volkswagen Golf Estate 1.4 TSI 122 BHP SE does not have a
torsion beam rigid axle.

A multilink rear axle is fitted to the following variants of the Golf Estate 1.4 litre TSI 122 PS, 1.4 litre TSI 140 PS and the
2.0 litre TDI 150 PS.

I hope this information proves useful and if we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us on the
number below.

Thank you for contacting Volkswagen UK.

Yours sincerely

You obviously didn't read my post above which states exactly from the VW brochure & duplicates what VW told you............no need to slag us off for "lack of response".........................

Noting that the OP got his wires crossed; here's another bullet point. The 1.6 TDi also gets the crappy torsion beam suspension.

It's on order now - so plan to do a bit of a write up ( if that is ok with Golfdave & Theswede ) - mainly interested in posting fuel consumption as not many real world figures I can see for the 122 1.4 TSI Estate - it may be useful to other forum members. Thanks to all that did reply in a helpful way.

We have one.. Just returned from a trip to France, fully loaded, and it's returned ~43 mpg long term (UK gallons). Peaks at 54 mpg on some slower trips.
Yes it's a fully independent rear suspension.

Golf 1.4 122 bhp Estate 6sp

On the VW tracker it is shown as at the dealer so I guess going through PDI and prep. Dealer hasn't contacted me yet but sure they will in 7-10 days. Delivery was shown as November so look as if it will be within that maybe even a week or so early. I will be keeping a log of fuel consumption and general running costs for any other 1.4 owners who may be interested. Not that it matters but the dealer did have a Pacific Blue estate on display and it seems like a good colour choice. Will update as and when it arrives - I will be saying goodbye to my 2 litre TDCI Diesel Titanium Focus which over the 7 years I have owned it has returned 43 mpg over 46,000 miles of 25% urban traffic 45% light traffic and 30% runs or longer journeys. ( Best ever was 54 worst 36 ). Hoping the golf produces similar or better MPG.

You will have to translate it into MPG but for me it is:

9-11L / 100km - City - (I'm driving very gently - between 1800 - 2700 RPM)... and it is 2-3 L/100km more than my previous 200 kg heavier car with 2.0 HDI... (diesel) :(

5,8 - 6,7L / 100km - consumption outside the city + some villages (without highways).

7L / 100km - average consumption since the beginning (1500 km)

Don't know yet what will be the numbers for pure highway.

Golf Estate 1.4 122 bhp

Hi Go Golf

There is an excellent ltrs / mpg converter here if anyone interested

http://www.calculateme.com/cGasMileage/LitersPer100kmtoMPG-imperial.htm

So based on your figures

9 L /100km = 31.38 miles per gallon [City]
11 L /100km = 25.68 miles per gallon [City]

5.8 L /100km = 48.70 miles per gallon [Mixed]
6.7 L /100km = 42.16 miles per gallon [Mixed]

7.0 L /100km = 40.35 miles per gallon [Average]

I will keep a similar log when mine arrives ..

Golf Estate 1.4 122 bhp Parking sensors / park assist/ reversing camera / Leather interior / mirror pack / Pacific blue

PS Your English is excellent !

Thanks for the info - sounds promising for mine - I averaged 44 overall in the Focus with highest 54 mpg on a run and slipping below 40 if I did a lot of city driving / short journeys so from your figures I am hoping for similar from the Golf.

Thanks again
