1. I don't notice clamping pressure as the driver as long as it is adequate, but TVS clamping pressure is better than all others?
2. How much faster does TVS shift gears? The DSG already shifts fast to me, if TVS shifts a hundredth of a second faster than my Stratified tune then I'd never be able to detect the difference.
3. Overall reliability? How is TVS being determined to be more reliable versus EQT, Strat, APR, etc?
4. Record setting history - Is the assumption that because they did well in the past everything they ever do is great?

I think he's more laughing at the guy using that TVS tune. I've spent some time on these forums and have never heard of it. Why do people choose these random ass tunes?

TVS is a huge name oversea. While they are not big in the US, they are a big name. If I remember correctly, they pioneered the DQ500 swap. They also have upgrade packages that are just more than a DSG tune.

1. To add on to this, the clamping pressure is hard to explain, but completely different. Their new website is great, but their old website used to contain way more information. Up to Stage 2+, they do like any other TCU tune and scale the TCU and enable different features, which is why you can do it at home. Stage 3 and 4 take a completely different approach and rewrite new calculations to the TCU, which makes it a way more involved process, hence needing to go to a dealer.
2. Shift time is hard to measure for a driver, so eh.
3. Reliability is a hard one to measure compared to others because you rarely hear of a failed clutch pack, let alone one caused by the tune.
4. And the record setting history has been across a lot of platforms, including MQB, so in this case it means something.

And as stated above, they did pioneer the DQ500 swap, which is a solid achievement.

Your response is pedantic. He obviously wasn’t implying that a 3rd party tuner would know MORE about a transmission than the OEM manufacturer of it. He meant that no tuner in the world has the extensive R&D SPECIFICALLY aimed at DSGs that TVS has, which should be obvious in the context of a conversation regarding which DSG tune is the best.

As a side note, APR has a working relationship with Borgwarner. I'm willing to bet APR has much more access to and knowledge of Borgwarner DSGs compared to TVS. I'm not saying APRs tune is better, I'm just stating a fact - flame me if you want.

As a general question, who creates the factory tune, Volkswagen or Borg Warner?

The software is mainly developed by IAV with Borgwarner and Volkswagen working collaboratively with them.

Even if I were interested in the TVS tune it looks like I'd be driving to central america to have it installed at the "nearest" dealer, no thanks.

I contacted TVS and asked about East Coast dealers, the response was that all dealers are on their webpage and if the dealer locator doesn't show one near me, then there isn't one near me.

I dont know how bad you want their tune but change your location to another state on the east coast to see if there really are any dealers.
