What's the opinion on these?
They work, but not to an appreciable degree for most people.
This fire hazard thing is blown way outta proportion. If you take care of your car and pay attention to shit, it won’t burn down. Get a good lava blanket and not a cotton ball.
I agree however it's one of the things that make it a really good idea to carry a fire extinguisher in the car. And unless you're regularly taking it off to check for oil leaks on the turbo lines, it's a little hard to pay attention to the problems that would make it a fire risk.

Why would you need to remove it to check for leaks? It doesn’t cover any of the lines.

Had one on my IS20, lowered underhood temps, increased oil temp a few degrees. Looked great but was a pain to install. I'll probably pass installing one on the Vortex, fire risk does seem real though.

I got one after tracking my IAT for a bit w/o one. What I noticed most is when moving it hovers at about 10-12 degrees above ambient rather than 18-20 degrees. IAT in traffic with AC on Max and about 80deg ambient was 145deg and before it would go over 160. My favorite part is that my fresh air vent no longer feels like a hair dryer. When I swap in my 2.0 OEM DP i'll probably wrap it since it'll be easier to get to.

basically. Had a bunch of numbskulls say silly shit like that on FB too.

100% needed if you do anything where you need optimal performance.

Reducing temps is one of the best ways to get more mechanical performance out of vehicles.

It comes down to maintenance and awareness. If you pop a leak that’s going to saturate the blanket, and then ignite, that same leak was going to do the equivalent without a blanket.

There is your answer on a technical level the performance of a turbo blanket. What this does not address is reliability of the turbo and wear on the oil and coolant or the risk of fire due to oil saturation.

I'm not against running them but always encourage people to have a goal in mind when performing modifications. Does a turbo blanket solve a problem you want fixed?
