Tune and DSG

So I'm ready to tune was going to go apr but now uni or euro are my options because why not do it at home and flash back to stock on my own time and dime if needed. If you have an opinion on either tune feel free to share but I'm leaning 1.5 euro since it's an all inclusive cost for any lvl of tune. So how does the dsg handle tunes and when will I end up having to shell money out for repairs/upgrades/replacements? I really have no idea what I'd do personally to make the trans more robust (I'm a noob).

Also what do you think of dsg tunes, are they worth it or kind of unnecessary? I assume they would further shorten the life of the trans for some performance?

I know lots of folks will suggest the protunes, etc, but I can say that I have APR S2 with DSG and can't be any happier. APR runs a pretty aggressive S2 tune, and the DSG tune was well worth it.

Yes, I'd have to go back to my APR tuner to get changes made, but for me, not necessary. Perfect running car, with zero issues.

The only reason I'd have to go to different tuner would be if I went to a bigger turbo that APR doesn't support/tune.

DSG tunes do not shorten the life of the trans, and assuming you're not exceeding Stage 2+/entry level Stage 3 power, you'll never need to "repair" or "replace" anything. it's capable of ~400WTQ safely, and all you have to do is flush the DSG fluid. Tuned, i would do 30K intervs inatead of 40.

FWIW I went APR Low-Output on my DSG and am NOT disappointed at all. Wasn't interested in dropping another $700 for different shift points (factory shift logic for me is fine) and supposedly higher clamping pressure. While I'm not worried at all *right now* about the factory DSG maps being sufficient to hold the 380lbft the High-Output file made, that would have worried me 80k+ miles down the road.

I was totally going for a "set it and forget it" type of deal. Just give me good power/torque gains without having to remember to swap specific spark plugs and shorter intervals to maintain power levels, worrying about DSG clutch slip down the road, and a torque curve that is better suited to FWD than a High-Output file could offer.

I just picked up a 2015 GTI autobahn....consider the tune myself (set it and forget it) and maybe cold air intake. Is the performance increase noticeable? Worth the cost? How much is this running you to tune in your area?

I am new to this car and to tuning...any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is my daily driver car...so just want a bit more, without sacrificing reliability or breaking things along the way.

Thanks for the quick response....who is the recommend tune for these? APR? Unitronic? Revo? Other?

What is the tune running for cost?

Intake is unnecessary and if you want more air and sound there are videos to show how you can change the stock intake for a little more of both. My car is also my daily and while tunes do run the cars harder a stage 1 tune should give no real problems.

The least expensive tune is eurodyne with the least agressive stage 1. The upside with eurodyne you buy the tune and you get access to all of their tunes so you can swap between them at will. Costs 500$ and 200$ if you want the tool to do it all yourself here's a link to the tune http://www.eurodyne.ca/shop/audi/stage-1-1-5-reflash-for-mk7-gti-mqb/
Tunes are the best bang for your buck so yes they're worth it!

Apr and unitronic seem to be most popular I'm changing my mind and probably going apr stage 1 personally (595$).

The idea of eurodyne and being able to do it yourself is appealing. But I see alot of people commenting on APR as a good product.

My suggestion is always the following:
Cobb for custom tuning
APR for OTS tune
JB1/4 for piggyback

The biggest problem is we have tons of awesome tuning options for these cars, and the vast majority of them are fantastic! As long as you are not getting a tune off ebay you should be pretty good.

Agree other than Cobb - would put ED Maesteo there.....not a fan of Cobbs falling reputation in the VW community
