Can you explain what happened here? I don't understand. Thanks!

The edges of those shims wrap around the ends of the pad (and are where near all the force goes under braking). Due to either defective shims or just more force they flattened out and expanded (think penny on the railroad tracks).

The one side was REAL bad and expanded so much it started creeping under the spring clip (which only serves to hold the pad outwards, radially).

A couple photos show the shims messed up vs normal for reference.

Did it scratch/groove your Girodisc rotors?

@tigeo has APR's old BBK... but since they discontinued it, finding parts is a chore. Plus they have non-studded caliper brackets... so the giant bolts you torque the caliper onto the bracket with are straight into aluminum, which stripped on him. They didn't even bother to put a steel insert... so not exactly smart design IMO.
Yes, the brackets should have steel inserts vs. threaded aluminum for sure or studded like @DerHase mentioned...I did over-ugga-dugga them :(. I'm going to do the other side with timecerts next time I'm mucking with the brakes to make sure it's bulletproof. I'd say the other weakness is not having the quick-change for the pads out the front...taking them off to swap pads is more of a PITA but I am pretty good at it now - mainly getting a small bungee cord to hold the caliper on the spring while you do it. Watching my garage-mate do his Merc the easy way without removing them made me jealous! I touch on some of these issues with this kit here at the end of the video. Overall, this are still a fantastic BBK (to me at least) and fortunatley I was able to get two rebuild kits from APR and worse case on rings, I can get them custom made if APR stops carrying them (Coleman, Girodisc?)...also could reach out to Powerbrake to see if they would sell them to me directly, they have a fellow in NC for hte U.S.-based office.

Any idea if these help (or even fit) with an aftermarket LCA like the Superpro ones I have?
If yes, would the Mk8 ones (5WA407117/18) or the ones for an unnamed vehicle (3Q0407117B/18B) fit the aftermarket arms better?
Thanks!!
I have the Superpro arms, have you read my posts/watched my video on this?

I read them, but it’s a lot. You’ve done so many mods that its hard to keep track… I can barely keep track of what I’ve already modded on my own Golf 🤣

Thank you!! I’ll order these LCA aero plates today and add them to a bunch of other work I’m doing. I’m also replacing my previous generation RS3 ducts at the same time with the new version, swapping to the RS3 rotor dust shields, and upgrading my GiroDisc rotors to an AP Essex kit with Endless pads.
