TPC Performance Housing Turbo Thread (Not the IS38 Ball Bearing thread....)

Wanted to make a new thread covering the most recent revision TPC Performance Housing turbo variants as the last one got locked and pointed to their OEM IS38 replacement. Just to be clear, this thread is not a discussion about the IS38BB that TPC offers since that thread already exists. Deleted my old post in the IS38BB thread so I am not spamming multiple threads.

I swapped to the newest revision TPC38 and came from a standard housing Vortex. Overall the Vortex was a super solid turbo. Great spool, took all the boosts, fantastic price during the Boost Weather Sale.

Was gonna move to the XL housing, but had the chance to jump on the 38. Wanted more top end.

Here are my initial 93 tune results on the new TPC38 with Performance Housing. This is the variant with the bolt-on inlet, 70mm TIP outlet/compressor housing inlet, and 56/71mm compressor (vs. the Vortex's 54/71mm compressor; nominal difference, but bigger is better right lol?).

Modified the WG/PUT/PR maps in ED and ran some custom cam timing maps courtesy of @railroader. Currently running 93oct, but the tune is otherwise identical to my Vortex tune.

Hoping some other new owners will chime in with their experience.

Can't wait to get mine on my GTI. I just saw on TPC's IG that the Cobb EPA thing might have been exaggerated.
We dont need to turn this thread into that discussion, there are plenty of other group discussions about that. Time will tell

Thanks for posting, we are quite excited about the new line we came out with in the fall. We have made changes from the older BB versions and they are showing in the spool times we are seeing.

We focused on quicker spool and stuck with ball bearing only options since the MQB platform loves to run high boost ( and therefore high thrust loads ) and the ball bearing systems can handle these higher loads better than journal bearing setups. Our larger options (TPC770 and TPC900) will be making a splash now that we have alot of them out there and data is coming back to us. These options will get the MQB platform deep into the 10s and even into the 9s at a very reasonable price.

I can't give all the details but our 770 recently made 648whp on a mustang dyno on e85 with amazing spool ( torque was 530wtq at approx 4400-4500rpm). To be perfectly honest this was at a higher boost level than we recommend running but it shows the tpc770 is a 600whp turbo with good spool characteristics.

we have results on our site from when the owner ran it on his car. 518whp on race gas on a low timing tune. Had a bit more boost left on the table as well as 7-8 degrees more of timing. We haven't gone back since to get more results.

TPC25 is the perfect turbo IMO for the stock motor guys looking for around the 500-525 whp mark on E. This turbo has amazing spool for the people worried about daily driveability.

Ah ok, looking more closely at your site I see the TPC20 which is more interesting to me. Would be eager to see dyno results on the smaller housing.

the tpc20 and tpc25 are the same turbo but the tpc20 uses an oem is20 turbine housing instead of an is38 turbine housing like the tpc25 does so expect similar results as others have shown between the small and larger turbine housings

Unless you have a 1.8 i would recommend the tpc25.

I've been eyeing the TPC770 waiting on more data for comparison. I'm currently on TPC38BB now.

I will be posting data on my tpc700 which is 98% of the same thing as the 770, and I'm still stock block for the record same wheels as the 770 for my 700

Plan is to finish putting everything back together this weekend. Turbo is in, just have to put a bunch of small things back on. @railroader and I will getting at it soon. We'll make sure to keep you all updated.
