Hi guys,

Fairly new to wheels/tires set up. I am looking to track my mk7 gti this summer, and I have recently purchased a set of wheels/tires before I decided that I am going to track.

BBS CO 18 x 8
Michelin PSS 225/40

My question is, I know I need wider tires, but is it more ideal to have 18x8.5 wheels with for example 245 tires or I can just stick with what I have 18 x 8 and get new 245 tires? And I've heard 235 would be the max on 8 width wheels, but I've also heard people running 245s max. What do you guys think?

I am planning to get the RE71R

Thanks

RE-71R run pretty wide, I have 235’s on my street wheels on an 18x8, they fit perfect on the wheel, see the smaller one on the right. Left is RE-71R, 255 on a 9” wheel

Yes for track I use 18x9 ET45 all around with -2.1 camber front and -1.9 in the rear

For performance, match the tire tread width to the wheel width. According to tire rack 235/40/18 RE71s come in at 8.1"

245 is the max you would want to use on an 8" width wheel. The tread width will be slightly wider than the wheel width, but not detrimentally so. Take into account the variations in tread width between brands and tire models, and you're at the max width with 245's on 8" width wheels
