150k miles in and boom!!! My timing chain jumped and has put my car out of time. So now the piston is slapping the valve head in that a$$ as it claps them cheeks trying to butt f&@k my engine out of commission. So VW specialist shop quoted me $1100 to replace tensioner and put on a new chain and put it back to proper timing. Anyone in the Houston area that knows how to fix it can help? I don’t have $1100 to fix it

I don't have a solution for you, but I am curious about your oil change history?

At least it's tax time ?

Well I did it every 10k miles as mile oil change ticker in the car said HEY....it’s time to change oil. It’s the chain torsioner that failed and made my chain loose and I was driving rather spirited one day and it misfired and it’s been knocking ever since. So timing chain jumped due to a plastic piece failing inside the torsioner. This engine is designed to fail! All the critical components inside the engine is surrounded by rubber and plastic pieces

The engine aren't designed to fail unless VW has figured out a magic formula of parts that would fail right after the warranty runs out. Otherwise they would would have atrocious warranty costs.

Almost every engine that has a timing chain has plastic guides, that's not unique to VW at all.

so the shop quoted you to only replace the tensioner/chain and get to proper timing....they didn't address the piston slapping the head?

When my B5.5 tensioner crapped the bed at 78 mph, same crap, but I had bent/broken valves and two even melted into the head. and all they want to do is fix your timing and not inspect for any damage?

Ya what the hell, there are more problems to address than just the timing now.

Pour water in the cylinders and hydro lock the motor. Most insurance companies cover "act of God" claims. Then you'll have a new motor ?

Wait, you have over 150k miles... and you say the parts are designed to fail? Wow!

I think I’m gonna make that my new quote

I’m sorry man, after your other thread I know your going through hard times right now. It sucks, but your probably just gonna have to get the money together to fix it somehow. A car that doesn’t run isn’t worth shit, after you get it running SELL IT IMMEDIATELY and get an old Corolla. Your GTI is turning into an endless money pit as Scotty would say.

Best of luck man
