Timing belt gtd

I got prices for this today for my gtd. So parts only timing belt kit, waterpump, and aux belt £298.42 then there's coolant that I didn't get a price for but probably £15. Parts plus fitting at vw including the aux belt is £572.58 and my local independent using the same vw parts is £564. I will go with my local as I have used them for 18 years and have had 3 belt changes on other cars done there.

Remember, VW will warranty the work for two years, and getting your timing belt done with them means you could be eligible for goodwill if your engine was to fail at some point in the future.

Might be worth thinking about when the price difference is so negligible.

Yeh I know what your saying but my condenser is also knackered and I'm going to get that done at the same time as it will save a wee bit on labour. A nissens condenser plus fitting and recharging will be £390. I got a price for a condenser from vw and its £314 just for the part! The same part that has failed!

Ah, that's fair enough then :)

Just to add to this thread, just booked my Golf into a local VAG specialist - they've offered £480 to change the cambelt and electric water pump using genuine parts including VAT, with a loan car.

VW wanted £549, plus £20 for insurance on the courtesy car. Saving of £89.

Are you getting an aux belt aswell? I always get a new one when I get the timing belt change.

Nah, it's super simple to change that as and when, and if it fails it won't damage anything. Can't say the same for the cambelt!

That's it done and aircon as cold as ice! I just always get the aux belt changed as there's probably not much chance it would last until the next timing belt change so may aswell change it when the old one is off.
