Hello everyone,
For all of you who have had a throttle bucking or hesitation under light throttle, I might have the fix for you. Here were my symptoms:
First off, my car is a 2017 GTI S 6spd manual. For the last 10 months, I was getting a throttle hiccup, or bucking, when I would be light on the throttle. This would happen in any heat, and it would happen randomly, meaning it would not always happen, but only sometimes. At first, it was rare, and as time went on, it became more frequent, until it happened almost all the time. It would also happen with or without cruise set, and would only happen between 200-3200rpm’s. If I got on the gas more than an 1/8, it would stop. So it would only happen when I was very light on the gas.
At first, I thought it could be bad gas. So I tried numerous different gas stations, and that never solved anything. I also thought maybe an injector was clogged. I bought some injector cleaner, but that never solved anything either. After carefully paying attention to how my car bucked, I then thought there was no way it could be an injector. I thought maybe, and most likely it felt like something electrical was cutting out. So I checked every electrical connection, and everything was secure and wiring was fine.
After careful inspection, I did notice my MAP sensor was loose, so I replaced the sensor with a new one, because the old one’s clips were broken, and that didn’t fix anything either.
I decided to see if anyone else had this issue, and I found a few MK6 GTI owners who were experiencing the same thing. In their chat rooms, a few people mentioned throttle body, and that it might need an adaptation, or that the wires might be kinked. Since I already have VCDS, o decided to hook that up to my car, perform a throttle body adaptation, and VOILA, no more bucking!! I have been running for a week now, and not a single bucking or throttle hesitation!
So if you are having this issue, do a throttle body adaptation. I’m not 100% sure it will fox your bucking/hesitation, but it did mine, so I thought I might let anyone know just in case this works for you.
