Thinking about new alloys - mk7.5 gti

Afternoon, my std alloys are looking a bit shabby after 6 years usage, so I’m thinking about the following:

Alutec Ikenu Gun Metal - https://www.wheelbasealloys.com/all...tal/18-inch/volkswagen/golf-gti/mk7?year=2017

18″ Pretoria alloy wheel Set, Galvano Grey Metallic - https://www.volkswagenpartsuk.co.uk/parts/18-pretoria-alloy-wheel-galvano-grey-metallic/

BBS XR - https://www.lkperformance.co.uk/whe...le=1432&front-rear=18x8.0&inventory_id=979435

BBS XS - https://www.lkperformance.co.uk/whe...le=1432&front-rear=18x8.0&inventory_id=979360

Pretorias are great but expensive, car is std and will stay that way so lowering isn’t an option. Not keen on black wheels either, thanks for the inputs.

Another option would be to get your existing alloys refurbished - when the time comes to sell the car, some prospective buyers are put off by aftermarket alloys. Assuming you’ve got 18” Parker alloys, for a top quality refurb you’re probably looking at £90-£100 plus VAT per wheel. I’m personally not a fan of diamond cut alloys, but many people are.

Of those you’ve provided links for in your post, I’d avoid the BBS XS alloys - they’re described as having a polished face which means they’re diamond cut (any alloys that are described as ‘machined’ will also be diamond cut). For me, diamond cut means poor durability of the clear lacquer on bare metal finish, susceptible to white-worm corrosion, more expensive to refurbish than painted / powder coated alloys and easily damaged by inexperienced/over-zealous tyre fitters and poorly maintained tyre changing equipment.

I like all the others you’ve shortlisted, but my preference would be the Pretoria’s, followed by the Alutec Ikenu in Gun Metal. I do like the BBS XR alloys but I’m not sure the design would suit a mk7 / mk7.5 Golf GTI.

It might be worth finding an alloy wheel retailer website that has a configurator so you can see what wheels look like on a Golf GTI (most let you select the model and colour of car so you can replicate your car). If websites with a configurator don’t have your preferred alloys on their website, there‘s likely to be alloys of the same / similar style to those you’ve shortlisted, so it’ll give you a chance to see them on the car before buying them.

This website has a configurator (there are others if you search on ‘alloy wheel configurator’ or similar search);

That's brilliant, thanks for the reply and link. TBH my preference was the Alutec Ikenu in Gun Metal! Mine are the 18" Milton Keynes alloys as standard.
