Normal.... almost every car I’ve bought could be detailed and use paint correction from the factory.

I always ask them not to wash the car before I pick up.

Actually I told mine to not touch my car as I was getting it detailed...& they didn't....I had the car for about 4 weeks before I got it to the detailer for a ceramic coating (G-techniq black serum) as he is booked up way in advance....I had made the booking before I took delivery of the car.

5yrs on the car is still swirl free...mind you I jet wash, snow foam, rinse, then two bucket with grit guards & several merino & micro-fibre mitts clean the car. & just use the G-techniq stuff...

Resolution: purchased from another dealership. They agreed to take the car to a detailing specialist before delivery to me. No swirl marks whatsoever, no additional charge to me.

Now you just need to figure out how you're going to minimize them going forward. The easiest option is to learn to wash your car yourself correctly and never use a "touchless" car wash or let the dealer wash it. My service guy knows not to have them wash my car.

You can detail your own car, installing a ceramic coat or a synthetic wax, or pay someone to do it for you. It's not that hard with a minimum of practice and some basic supplies and tools. Plus once you know what you're doing, it works on any car (except Subarus, those are hopeless.)

Car looks great too, I rarely see black R's,

My Lapiz Blue R had swirl marks as well. I've found that applying Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Ultra Finishing Polish M20532 with an orbital buffer will make it look like it was painted with glass. Then just apply a protective coat of wax/ceramic and it'll be perfect. Just avoid using a rotary buffer as that's often the source of swirl marks anyhow. Using a micofiber towel for washing will help to maintain the shine.

One thing I noticed while polishing my old black MK7 GTI was the finish holograms very easily so had to use a soft red pad (same pad for wax/sealants) to polish the final round before applying sealant.

I think the clear is on the soft side too. I will end up doing a full paint correction on my new GTI once the weather warms up. They did not even get all the plastic adhesive off. I already had to take a clay bar to 20% of the car, it felt gritty in a few areas.

You can use a light degreaser in place of clay. I like Simple Green cut as much as you can to still remove the cosmoline. IronX is also useful, even on new cars to remove ferrous buildup from rail transit.

Simple green is a solvent+detergent and isn't great for paint.. and especially bad for use on aluminum. Use an automotive cleaner like Optimum Power Clean. That said, it's chemical decontamination not mechanical, and like IronX or similar products should be a step before mechanical decontamination (clay). But they won't get everything clay will.

Sure, it isn't "great" for paint, but it cleans off cosmoline and preps the paint for a proper polish and sealants. Just as many use isopropyl to thoroughly clean, this is a milder approach. But I also use a rotary, on single stage black paint, so I'm one of those.

I use RC motor spray (nitro cleaner) for cleaning that stuff off. It is fine on paint. Been using it for decades before and after the VOC compliance. Honestly that is one cleaner every garage should have.. I buy them in cases.
