Superpro lower control arm machining discrepancy?

Fellas,

I just noticed that one of my LCAs ball joint holes are drilled slightly off center by about 1mm. Will this cause a caster imbalance between the driver and passenger sides?

Yes, assuming the other sides are where they should be. They didn't hold the casting correctly during machining. Manufacturing defect, this should be warrantied asap.

I’ve reached out to superpro. These are not new, however it is a clear manufacturing defect rather than wear and abuse. It will be interesting to see how this is handled. I will share their response.

I just checked the SuperPro ones that I took off, and they look to be properly centered, so this looks to be a one-off issue. They were very helpful to me, hopefully they can help you out.

Well, I must say Superpro's customer service is excellent. I received a quick response after forwarding the photos to them. This was their response should anyone ever encounter this issue in the future:

Thanks for the reply. We have 2 different arms for the MK7 GTI. KTA252 and KTA262. 252 arms and standard arms and 262 arms are high caster arms. The blank arms may have been mixed up during assembly. The slight offset shouldn’t cause any issues but I will get the right arm out to you anyway. Thanks.

George

This makes sense as both control arms have identical production date stickers on them however the finish between each arm is slightly different. It was very refreshing to receive such helpful CS. I will continue to be a supporter and advocate of Superpro products.

Yeah I don't buy that but whatever, glad it's solved.

I'm confused here. KTA 252 and KTA 262 are Whiteline lower control arms, one with advertised 2.0 and 2.5 degrees added caster, respectively. The SuperPro arms are ALLOY0018K. They used to sell ALLOY006K, and maybe 007K, but something didn't work with the aluminum subframe (I think) which they addressed with the 18K.

That’s a good point. The customer service person is from the Zeder Corporation, which is apparently ithe parent company that owns both Superpro and Whiteline. The US addresses both appear to be in Ontario, California so I suspect there may have been some initial confusion. To be fair, the guy helping me again asked for me to verify the SKU for my LCAs with photos etc. I did a little reading and it appears that superpro used to make a different LCA that had more caster. I have a feeling this is just a mental mix up. We’ll see what happens, I could wind up with mixed brand and mixed geometries lol. I will update once I receive another arm. They mentioned that they’ve been affected by the supply chain situation so iit may not be resolved immediately.
