Stock Speakers EQ Measurements and EQ Corrected Results Graph

This is more of an informative post, I took measurements of the front stage of a 2-Door GTI with stock speakers and Kenwood X802-5 5 channel amp. This was done with a calibrated MIC and Room EQ Wizard - REW.

Measurements:

GTI Left = Strong dip at 60hz and 80 hz and 100hz, Best to crossover speakers at 110hz to aftermarket subwoofer as there are too many nulls, even when corrected, which I will post in Example 2.

GTI Left EQ = Dip at 60Hz and 100Hz still present when corrected. Flatter response will be achieved with a 110hz crossover to subwoofer. Dips around 180Hz and 550Hz cannot be EQed out, this is more to do with the car than speakers itself.

GTI Right = Strong dip at 100hz, Best to crossover speakers at 110hz to aftermarket subwoofer as this null is present even when corrected, which I will post below in Example 4.

GTI Right EQ = Dip at 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz still present when corrected. Flatter response will be achieved with a 110hz crossover to subwoofer. Dips around 180Hz and 550Hz cannot be EQed out, this has more to do with the car than the speakers.

Again this is just for informative purposes, do with it as you wish.

Another follow up, Here are the settings I used to EQ the front 2 speakers using a Dayton DSP-408 to match the graphs above:

GTI Left Front: 10-band Parametric

Fc 140 Hz Gain -3.3 dB Q 2.000
Fc 158 Hz Gain -1.5 dB Q 29.890
Fc 304 Hz Gain -6.2 dB Q 1.913
Fc 1050 Hz Gain -6.1 dB Q 1.000
Fc 1470 Hz Gain 4.3 dB Q 5.000
Fc 2520 Hz Gain 2.6 dB Q 5.000
Fc 5696 Hz Gain -7.1 dB Q 1.575
Fc 7253 Hz Gain -4.2 dB Q 1.000
Fc 15204 Hz Gain -4.2 dB Q 1.283

GTI Right Front: 10-band Parametric

Fc 81.1 Hz Gain -7.8 dB Q 3.262
Fc 102 Hz Gain 4.1 dB Q 2.000
Fc 135 Hz Gain -1.7 dB Q 27.127
Fc 160 Hz Gain -10.1 dB Q 2.753
Fc 168 Hz Gain 6.1 dB Q 26.928
Fc 638 Hz Gain -5.1 dB Q 5.000
Fc 773 Hz Gain 2.1 dB Q 5.000
Fc 1123 Hz Gain -4.4 dB Q 5.000
Fc 5977 Hz Gain -6.9 dB Q 1.000
Fc 12968 Hz Gain -7.9 dB Q 1.000

Time Alignment Settings - GTI 2-Door Stock speaker and aftermarket subwoofer in hatch middle against backseat.

Sub to driver = 58 in. TA = 0ms
Right speaker to driver = 53 in. TA = 0.37ms
Left speaker to driver = 38 in. TA = 1.46ms
Rear Left to driver = 30 in. TA = 1.685ms
Rear Right to driver = 48 in. TA = 0.58ms

If you have a 10-band DSP EQ you can apply these settings and get a similar result.

Peace!

How do you acquire this level of knowledge of acoustics? Do you work as a sound engineer? I am so into this stuff but need to know where/ how to learn about it best... i guess i could just start perusing audiophile forums. having no mechanical experience or automotive education, i've learned everything i know about cars online. mostly on forums lol

anyway this is fkn sick

Not a sound engineer at all, just has always been a hobby of mine and all the knowledge was learned through forums and youtube lol.
