Steering collum rust

Took a peek under the driverside dash looking for the obd plug and discovered this:

I recommend everybody to take a look, even if this is just surface corrotion i think this is not acceptable.

Starting to get annoyed about all the little faults on this car.

Checked mine no sign of any surface rust after 18 months use.

I would check under the floorpan carpet as there were some early problems with poorly factory fitted drainage fittings on a few cars.

Update, VW will change the collum. They had never seen anything like this before.
