Correct, there is no way to use a spring compressor to do this while on the car. The correct way is to unbolt the axle to allow the knuckle to drop far enough away to remove the strut then you use a spring compressor to remove the spring from the strut. The "2x4" method just eliminates the need to unbolt the axle is all, I've actually done it and it does work but to me the axle method is a better/easier way to go.
Huh, TIL -- yeah, I've not started on suspension bits for the GTI yet so I didn't realize there wasn't a way to get a spring compressor in there. I did see in a thread someone fastening the 2x4 to the strut, which at least makes me a little more comfortable, but ultimately I'm with you, when the time comes I'll (now) unbolt the axle.

I did it that way - bolted the 2x4. Driver's side was super simple/fast and I did it solo and removed the thing in less than 15 min. The passenger side was a PITA and was a bit harder/struggled getting the 2x4 in/bolted up. I figured I would try it and did so next time, if I ever remove them again, will be the normal method by unbolting the big axle nut.

Tonight on my way home from work the AP completely quit showing an AFR reading.
I suspect this could be an issue with the AP. But I more suspect the ecu just quit sending the data for some reason. No epc light and I didn’t notice anything with weird in power/sound/feel.

When I got home I shut the car off and scanned for codes. I pulled a p0131.
I started and shut the car off 3 more times and never got the AFR to show back up. Finally I disconnected the battery and after reconnecting and starting the AFR finally displayed.

I’m not really sure where to go from here. I can’t find really anything online related.

Seems there’s quite a bit of content related to this code on YouTube. Unsure if you’ve searched the forum but a quick search pulls up a few posts. https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?search/2777773/&q=p0131&o=date

I'm not sure what this changes if anything at all, but this log shows my loss of AFR reading while cruising yesterday. Set point is still there though...
https://datazap.me/u/roald/log-1677760277?log=0&data=1-2-8-15-45

And this is from the drive this morning.. Should the AFR be all over the place like this? Is this a result of the o2 sensor going?
https://datazap.me/u/roald/log-1677760036?log=0&data=1-15

My Pre-tune logs don't look like this- I wasn't taking logs in the 3rd/WOT condition - even still the AFR is pretty solid.

I'm not sure if this is really even relevant or meaningful in anyway.

I did not get another p0131 on the way into work this morning, I also don't really get much of a chance to get up to speed in the morning.

I'm looking into the o2 sensor stuff this morning to see if I can DIY/what part/how much.

Looking over some forum posts I am having this exact same issue:
https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/cobb-accessport-v3-questions.380425/#post-7548579
This has to be an issue with the latest FW on the AP. Since updating it, I have also had these exact AFR issues. P0131 Low voltage and at times reading 0 on the AP and in Logs. Almost ordered a new O2 but nothing else indicated there was any issue with it. It still takes a couple minutes of driving to start displaying the AFR values. My tuner also concluded it’s a AP bug.

I was diddling around with the car last night after I got home because what else is there to do when it's 70 on March 1st in Ohio :D
I disconnected the battery to check check plugs. I also was checking over the air filter and had come across some posts yesterday about Catch Cans or possibly a revised PCV before AutoX season starts. So I wondered how much oil I was actually getting into the throttle body and I was surprised to see a more than just a film. I noticed a similar ?issue? when I pulled my manifold for a carbon clean last summer. Anyways after I reconnected everything I fired the car up and notice a strong smell of raw fuel in in the engine. I thought the HPFP was leaking. Which is eerily similiar to this- https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/troubleshooting.412446/
So I guess I'm looking for this when I get home tonight. 😵‍💫
EDIT: It looks like it's possible that opening and closing the door was causing the fuel pump to prime and that's what I was smelling. Plan is to idle it in the driveway today and see if the smell returns. If it does I guess I'm pulling the intake manifold this weekend looking for a possible leak. If there is an injector issue I should be seeing misfires right?

B1S1 was the code. From what I can find this appears to be the correct part number.

My engine code is: Vehicle ID: VLK_CXCA - pulled from the Cobb AP info.
Then I looked up the actual BOSCH 17190 but according to oreilly...maybe this isn't it?

According to this site : https://www.boschsparkplugs.net/bosch-17190-oe-identical-afr-sensor
CXCB and CXCA are both okay for 2017 and this plug

Everything I could cross reference seemed to indicate that it IS in fact the right part.
Ordered, will be here tomorrow and I'll find out. Picked up a Lisle Socket too from Amazon because this looks like a real pain to get to.

Replaced 02 sensor over the weekend. Was a 15 minute job with the right socket. No error codes since.
I still get a delay on AFR reporting on cold start, but I assume this is just some strangeness with the AP. Once it does pop, usually once the idle drops it stays within reasonable ranges.

Hoping to get another 3rd gear WOT log soon.
Thanks for the help guys!

Got a few logs at lunch today.
https://datazap.me/u/roald/3rd-gear-wot-post-02-sensor-replacement?log=0&data=8-15
Is requested torque and actual torque supposed to be nearly inverse like that? - I guess this literally what the torque curve is?
https://datazap.me/u/roald/3rd-gear-pull-post-02-sensor-replacement?log=0&data=8-15

No epc lights this time. Not sure if that was a one off or gas related or what I've refilled since of course this time at a shell station.
Otherwise I don't yet know enough about the various items to say good/bad.
