Spulen or Bilstein Coilovers?

Hi all,

I have a 2017 Golf 1.8T, and am looking to change over from my VWR springs on stock shocks to potentially coilovers. Other option is just to upgrade to the Bilstein shocks, which I know is a good upgrade.

Does anyone have experience with the Spulen Competition or Bilstein Performance coilovers? Ride quality, longevity/reliability etc. These are the two cheapest models on USP Motorsports website for my car. Not looking to spend more than this as I'm in Canada and the exchange rate is horrible.

Also open to other suggestions. I'm reading EQT's are great, but also more pricey (get what you pay for)

I really like my EQT Coilovers. They have a great feel to them and dampening adjustment is super simple and easily accessible. If you can swing them you wont be disappointed. I know before Ed released the EQT coilovers he had the bilsteins and was disappointed with them. Said something about them wearing out quickly.

what size strut does your car take? some take 50mm strut diameter, some take 55mm.

A lot of 1.8s are 50mm. AFAIK there is no 50mm EQT, unless they recently brought them out.

I’ve not heard good things about Spulen anything.

In the $1000ish budget, I say Bilstein B14s, BC coilovers, or B8/Koni Sports to go with your springs.

Open Road Tuning and Silvers Neomax look to be very very similar to EQT coilovers, though not sure if they have a 50mm spindle option.
