I don’t know about this. More people have tried racing me in one month of GLI ownership than in all my time owning a GTI. The other morning it was a Nissan Altima..
Two things, maybe three come to mind.
Sedans are more aero than hatches or wagons.
You have a GLI, it has the look. 90hp nissans with balance shafts that explode are gonna rev.
You have TORQUE.

I just picked up a 2019 AT, JB4'd it and a bunch of other stuff in the first week. Solid car. so LongRoof7.54moV6MT or is it LR7.5QVTM. Hah.

Gun storage under seat is here. Going in tomorrow.

R springs and Bilsteins are here. Just waiting on the TT perches. There's more. Yay.

I highly doubt you got a better deal than I did.

2021 Autobahn DSG

0% for 60 months

$5,000 down, $30,500 OTD total.

$425 a month

I’ve bought three cars from South Charlotte and never even went there to purchase the GLI. Called and told my salesman what I wanted, they agreed on it & delivered the car to my house.

Salesman are gonna salesman at most dealerships, it’s all about negotiating a deal that’s realistic and if you have a good relationship with a sales team it can be very easy or conversely that could take you to the cleaners if you walk in off the street and just say I want that one.
Oh I agree, and you did get a good deal. It is nice to be a repeat customer as that always works in your favor. The sales manager down there just ran me in circles and actually lied to me like he thought I was stupid. You can't start a relationship like yours at a dealership if they pull your chain on your initial visit. Maybe it was because it was so busy that day I went in. Keffer was a nightmare too.

the gli is the Yin to the yang that is the gti. theres just so many reasons to buy a gti instead of a GLI. you have to really want a gli for the subdued look or unless you have plans to modify the appearance which I did but didn't want to buy a car to change it majorly. when GLI's are modified, they look VERY good. especially with 19" wheels. in addition, the GLI had faster numbers than a GOLF R in a timed run. they said it was due to the tires and longer wheel base. food for thought.

I mean... it's more of a the new GLI is not subjected to the VW SFD and new ECU like the new MK8 GTIs are. :(

Like the title says... kicking myself for selling my GTI. :(

Depending on your preferences, I would also consider a used TT. 4WD with GTI engine, low center of gravity, really nice styling and interior, hatchback, small weight bump considering 4WD. They seem to be less hot in terms of price in the used car market.

I know you already realize it is a sedan vs hatch but that is really a huge thing. The GLI is seriously subtle. Subtle in that, if you don't know VWs, you wouldn't have a clue that the GLI is a "performance" variant with GTI meats. Just as similar as one not knowing a Golf R is a high end golf. Though I think the GTI has more of a "look" than the "GLI" to at least give some people an idea that it is performance based. Heck, the GTI has more of a look than the R to give people a thought that it is the highest end VW you could buy.
I agree with this. There's a guy near me who drives around all day in his white RS3 terrorizing traffic. I always see him, and generally don't even think twice about it until I hear it. It's such a boring car and really does look like a steel-wheeled Jetta at a casual glance. If they brought the hatch, I'd still have no interest in it as it would be automatic only, but at least I'd like seeing them.

My sister sold me her manual Mazda3 hatch when she moved out of the country. Through some fault of my own, like not actually seeing her very often even though she only lived a few hours away, it turned out to be an automatic sedan. I sold it quickly and bought a manual hatch Mazda3.

Well, those people racing you clearly now what it is.

I know as well, with the GTI, I deal with it OFTEN. Not even so much people want to race me but I guess the bad rap from some bad actor GTI drivers, lol. I feel like people get real aggressive when they drive around me. If it is a pickup truck, they'll accelerate quickly just to get around me so I can hear their loud exhaust. Granted, I'm literally just laying back cruising, usually on a blue tooth phone call not realizing wtf people are doing until it's apparent enough, lol.
