This is on a TDI but I'm running GTI dampers and springs. Tires are 225/45R17. When I got them I was low and already rubbing which I did not like. When these need replacing I will be going with more meat, maybe a 235/50 or 225/55, to fill out the wheel wells a little more. I don't really care about wheel gap but I like comfort.

In hindsight, as I get more competitive, wish I had gone 18 so I can get 265's on there. Just wish they made 265 in 17"

I’m a 5-spoke guy. I think RSE05’s are the best 17’s. 17x8 ET45, ~18 lbs.
Stock suspension
Enkei TFR 17x8 +45 (Tirerack says 18lbs per wheel)
Hankook RS-4 235/45/r17
I really like the copper color, was always a fan of bronze but these look pretty good
My only issue with 17” wheels is the rather small clearance between the wheel inner barrel and PP brakes. I got a rock stuck in between the caliper and wheel once while driving about 15mph on a side road. Sounded like something was just scraping on the ground from under the car, and saw the small pebble chillin between the wheel and caliper. I may just have bad luck but I’m just going to expect this issue with 17s.

Looks awesome. The bronze is so nice on our cars IMO
