Should I buy the wife a Tiguan?

Hey people,

I bought my new GTI in August, and now that I've successfully sold my 2011 TDI back to VW for a healthy $18,900 I'm thinking of getting her a white Tiguan.

The dealership is offering a straight up $5,500 discount off any in stock Tiguan and they've got a 2017 Wolfsburg Edition and a 2017 Sport. I assume they are offering such deep discounts because they will soon be getting the new beefed out Tiguans in the fall and want to liquidate their inventory. We need a car for her now and unfortunately can't wait for the new Tiguan design but she doesn't actually mind that.

I'm looking at somewhere in the ball park for $21.5k for a 4-Motion Sport w heated leather seats (no HID's Sunroof Nav or Fogs) or $23k for the Wolfsburg which I believe has all those options. This is of course before MA sales tax and likely 1.5% APR and other fees.

Thoughts on sticking with VW? She definitely wants a crossover sized vehicle.

Interesting suggestion. A trip to VA would be crazy! Never done anything like that for a vehicle.

To my wife and I the Tiquan felt small and old.
Also has older engine.

We also tested the Honda CRV. Nice but boring. Wife felt it was loud when driving.

We ended up getting her a Hyundai Tucson with AWD. 1.6L Turbo.
Listed price around $27,000

Hubs can also be locked in thru button on center armrest.
Also has down hill speed holding.
Also can adjust from Sport, Normal, Econ on drive conditions.
Stated to have a dual clutch auto but not as good as a GTI but nice options.

Did you test the CX-5? The Tiguan seems the most outdated, but her commute is relatively short and doesn't want to spend more than 25k.

Cx5 Or Forester would be the 2 choices having not seen/driven the Hyundai.
Tiguan as others have mentioned seems outdated and small

we got two at the same time.

My advice - get her a Macan

We're in no crazy rush, but I know she will need one when we move into our new house since she won't be able to walk to work anymore. I definitely want her to test drive:

• Old Tiguan (best current incentives)
• Mazda CX-5 (more attractive)
• Kia Sportage (attractive warranty, newer looks)
• Hyundai Tucson (attractive warranty, newer looks)
• Subaru Forester (best AWD platform for winters)

Hyundai Tucson - 1.6L Turbo - AWD

Just some pics for another option.
They only had the Sport Model on lot and Wife said she could live with cloth seats. After a year she wanted leather Seats.

Katzkins makes some nice seats and installer near Nashville did a good job on install. You can custom design your seats as my wife's are now unique. cost around $1,500, based on memory.
They can color match OE interior colors if you want. Ours are matched to interior.

Just a cheaper option. The model with leather seats and Navigation goes up to over $32,000

Stock Cloth Seats.

I dropped the SUV off the evening before.
They started work when they opened the next day and called me at noon for pickup. Did not take long. However, they cut the old seat covers off to speed up install so you can not keep the old ones.
I had to get after work and had a 1 hour drive to Nashville.

For any vehicle (cloth) or leather replacements, try "Katzkins" web site.
They have a fun seat build option. You can design a seat if they make that car or truck. They list the Golf but not he GTI. However I have seen a picture of a GTI seat on the site. Might be a custom request or they are working on it. So far we have liked the leather feel.
