Just curious, I'm not racing for a while, not i will get back eventually. I had to replace my typed suspension which honestly wasn't very competitive.

I now have B14 with 400lbin front & apparently 325 rear.

Using same shocks, could you put a 500-700 spring on the rear & would it work or would have to get revalved & could it be done with the B14. R better to scrap the whole thing and get something new.

$20 says you'd want to get that revalved. honestly the only way to know for sure is have someone dyno the shock, and at that point it's already off the car and in the suspension shop.
probably want to make sure you have a ton of data before committing on a non-adjustable coilover though.

So what you're saying is, leave the Golf as is & get an ES MR Spyder. 😂

With the 26mm bar on stiff when autocrossing, on 034 lowering springs there's some body roll, but with almost -4 deg of camber (I'm in XA, not STH) I'm not terribly worried about it. I prefer a softer setup overall on track.

I'm currently in the middle of "dynoing" a few different bump stops to try and improve things further. They're way overlooked when it comes to tuning the suspension except for a few little niche automotive circles (Miatas, BMWs).

I've been meaning to ask you about your bumpstop journey.

For background, I'm running STH but still on my original suspension bits at 100k, looking at Koni SAs and maybe want to pair with a slightly lower spring like H&R OE Sports. I value a good daily ride so I'd prefer not to go nuts with the spring rates and damping. I've liked Koni Yellows in the past on more dedicated track/autox cars but this is primarily a street car.

I've come across some of your comments about the SAs being great when not running into the bumpstops; this makes sense to me. Do you know about how much you've had to remove from your standard bumpstops?

I think eventually it would be nice to tune with the bumpstop material and length, but from a standpoint of getting things going well enough, I figured I should pick your brain. Thanks in advance.

You 100% need shorter bumpstops with lowering springs and Konis.

APR has really good spring rates for autocross, but V1 for the mk7 was too low. They say they've fixed that.

I ran eurosport camber kit, APR springs, and koni yellows. I didn't cut the pumpstops and got massive understeer under braking. Cut them down and it solved the issue. I also replaced the rear springs with an MSS adjustable setup, with Swift springs and a big rear sway.

I sold the car and I'm setting up my mk8. It's got DCC so I'm going to try DCC with APR springs and APR bump stops and a RSB.

Febi 22641 originally meant for a Volvo, trim 5mm off the TOP - this is the best result I've had paired with 034 lowering springs.

I think if I don't buy coilovers (looking heavily at the new Konis, otherwise would go straight to Ohlins), then a set of Golf R springs would be about right with OEM bump stops, with 10mm trimmed off the TOPs on Koni SA shocks.

Trimming the top is helpful because it keeps the soft progressive nose of the bump stop and you don't really feel the car engaging the bumps.

This.

But also avoid APR springs. Not compatible with camber mounts other than the Eurosport (since those do not move the spring towards the body).

The new APR springs are fucking huge compared to OEM and rub like a SOB if you want to run 034 camber mounts.

Yeah, the old APR springs did rub a lot with -3 deg camber up front.

I didn't really think that they would increase the diameter much, but that makes sense. I'll have to rethink what I want to do. I was only planning on 034 lower arms and APR springs, which I'm figuring would put me at -2. I'm going for more of mild setup this time. The stock mk8 is already so much more neutral, I'm thinking I can get the balance I need without as much negative camber, since the car is mostly a street car.

The main reason I've been leaving APR again is their rear spring rates are really aggressive compared to others. The car really rotated well.

As always thanks for the info, i have been looking into shorter more progressive stop for more room for shims at factory height. They may also work for lowering springs as well.

https://5xracing.com/i-21093011-5x-racing-47mm-bump-stops.html?ref=category:1105233

These are the softest 19mm id bumpstops i have been able to fined.

Other than than that eibach specs this 8K0 412 131 bump stop for the sportwagen i assume it has a softer progression then oe and could also be trimmed on the thick end.

@DerHase have you tested the rate of the rear bump stops?

Yeah I looked at those originally and decided to roll the dice on the Volvo bumps. They are VERY soft and progressive. I went from hard bottoming on a few bumps going through a local tunnel to no longer doing that on the 034 springs. What's nice is they're cheap.

How much of a drop did the 034 give you? I'm looking for less than an inch.

That's what I'm looking for, too - that's why I want to go with H&R OE Sports, though I see reports they drop the rear more. I figured on adding TT pads back there.

Measurements there, though honestly I think they have sagged a tiny bit more since. I could probably add the TT pads and be happy enough.

If I put anything other than coilovers on the car, it'll probably be Golf R front springs, and maybe buy a pair of the BC spring cups for the rear + some generic 2.5in coil-over springs so I can fine tune the rake and choose my own spring rates. Probably in the 300-350lb range would be about right.

I have KW rear adjusters (Bc were back ordered) and 8in 350lbs springs to go with my stock fronts, but they have been sitting in my garage for too long. Going for some flat ride to smooth out the chop on back roads.

ill probably go to koni str.t (available 2025 for the golf) or tein enduapro plus (i bit leery but hydraulic bumps tops could be nice) with those febi / volvo front bumps once i need to replace the shocks and struts.

Are the rear bumbstops also active during hard driving and has anyone tested the rate?

I have a pair of DSG R front springs in the garage if you need them. I was planning on replacing the front APR's and keeping my rear MSS adjustable setup before I sold the car.

I'm pretty impressed with the DCC shocks on the mk8, so I'm going to try to work within that limitation. Is the Mk8 R lower than the GTI? Maybe I just buy a set of mk8 R fronts and same same with the BC rear setup. Wil it accommodate swift springs?

I would avoid anything with tien in the name.

I've never had an issue with the rear, since the car is so nose heavy.
