Coolant Tank Cap - Porsche

I purchased what is called a Porsche coolant tank cap.
On the underside it looks just like the OE VW cap and all printing is very similar so likely made by same company.
The Porsche cap fits just like the OE but it does not seem to click in place once tightened down. It fits well but just different at the final position.
So far no leaks of issues. I have carried the OE cap in the hatch just in case.

Window Tinting

A little over a week ago I had the window tinting work completed.
Went with CXP Sun Tek Film. Carbon Film
This film is similar to 3M ceramic film.
Went with 35% for doors and hatch.
70% on windshield and sunroof.
Film blocks 50% of IR.
Blocks 100% UV

Turned out well.
I had 35% added to my wifes car years ago but my 35% looks darker, which is good. Looks good from inside.
I did not add a sun visor strip yet, want to try something else, but need to locate a vinyl installer.

Pick up day pic at bottom for comparison.

More interesting photos.

To us Brits, the US backgrounds provide informative / different props for our favourite cars.

Many thanks.

Theater (UK-theatre!), cinema, bioscope, multiplex......great historical names.

The "Park" looks good and retrospective.

Many of us have got back into going out for film shows. The big screen and surround sound adds value that you cannot replicate at home (although home cinema systems today are very good).

Has not been used as a Theater since early 1980's.
For the last 20 years sat vacant, empty.
At this time not set up for movies. It costs a lot not to install digital equipment as movies now come in digital format. For live performances, so we will see how it goes in future use.

Review on LP, DCC and PP - My thoughts!

LP - everyone should get this. The lighting is great, looks very good. Better than most other new cars. On high beam they light both sides of the interstate and you can see forever. It is fun to see the lights swing around when making turns. Start up is impressive as the lights go thru an alignement test before settling into position.

DCC - first and foremost the R and GTI are performance based cars. They have a performance suspension. Even in comfort mode it does not make the car a cruising Cadillac. However, it might not be a Cadillac but I think it is better. My GTI is solid and smooth at 80mph. DCC allows you to feel more or less of the road surface. In sport the ride is still good but you feel more of the texture of the road. Not so much noise but more vibration. In comfort you are still well in touch with the road, just not having to deal with the road vibration. If you are under 25 then you might get by without DCC. Over 25 years old I started to hate driving on interstates with expansion joints in my Honda CRX. This is my reason for getting DCC. I am now 50 and do not want to hear my wife complain about why the ride of my new car is so bad. In Comfort mode my wife felt the ride was very good on the interstate.

PP - most cars I have owned always felt weak on brakes. The brakes on my PP GTI feel like the strongest part of my car. The brakes feel like they can easily pull the car down from any speed and hardly break a sweat. For this alone I would get PP. LSD - I wanted this for safety reasons. I likely do not drive fast enough to make the most of this but in rain, snow and bad roads I know the LSD will be there to help me. I do not know about base GTI but my PP GTI has no torque steer. The 10hp with PP package? More is always better. With brakes and LSD It is good to have more horse power.

What (R or GTI) is best to buy depends on you. What have you driven the past? Is 4 wheel drive a must? For me the GTI fills all my needs. If you can afford, get all the items mentioned, you will like them. If money a factor then I would get in following order.
LP
DCC
PP

If young and ride quality not important then swap DCC and PP.
With either car you will enjoy them. Solid and safe at any speed.

^ Appreciate your feedback.

I was hoping of walking away with an S trim with all 3 of those features this past Saturday. A GTI with a unicorn, I guess it wasn't meant to be.

Hey sandman. Lookin very nice. Did you get the LED brake and tail lights? If so, how do you rate them?

I see these on the web site but have not ordered any.
I may try them.
Would like the Euro LED taillights but not wanting to spend that much now and I do not have access to coding to complete install.
Sorry, no help on this item. :(

An Apology for VW Engineers!

My story begins the first time I washed my GTI MK7.
I had my key in my pocked and while washing my car found out that every time I washed the front door handles my car locked and unlocked.
Even when hosing the car off with my hand touching the water and the water hitting the door handle it unlocked!
So the next time I washed my GTI, I removed key and placed away from car while I washed it. This time it did not lock and unlock on me.
This same day I was due to go out of town and would later stop to get gas for the trip.
As I washed the car I went to opened the gas cap cover so I could wash under it if needed. I pressed the corner of the cap and it would not open.
All the threads I read about people having issue with the gas cover not opening rushed thru my mind. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!! HOW WILL I MAKE MY TRIP? YES I COULD DRIVE THE HOUR AND A HALF TO VW DEALER AND GET HELP BUT THIS WAS NOT IN THE PLANS FOR TODAY!

I tried the cover again, would not open and you can not help it open without damaging the paint.

Thinking about what I would do, I finished washing the car.
(Cusing the VW Engineers the whole time under my breath)

After drying the car I went and put the keys back in my pocket. Walking around the back of the car, I came to the gas cover and you would not believe, the cover was sitting there open.
I had to assume the key being near the car or unlocking the car now gave access to the fuel cover.

Later in the week when leaving work, I had a co-worker go to my car while I held back with the keys to see if he could open the fuel cover. It would not open.
When I walked up to it with key in hand it would not open. Once I unlocked the car it would open.
I later looked in manual but found no info related to lock and unlock.

So it looks like the VW Engineers developed a true locking fuel cover that you must unlock car to access.:D
Just when I thought I had a problem the VW Engineers have out thought me and designed a system more advanced than I.

A small discovery I could not find in manual nor was it covered in the pick up day. I did try to open 2-3 times on pick up day just to verify it worked. Which it worked fine when tried that day.
