I like pics.
I like to not bottom out front end.
So far I have not hit the front spoiler and that is saying a lot.
I also have DCC and I like how it works now.
I do want to space wheels out. In time will do.

You do not like my hatch pop?
Guess I am taking it off then.

Nice honest review. I had this on my MK5 GTI and had the same problems..hard to close and usually didn't work at all in the winter. I'll probably get this, just not anytime soon. So many other things to do that are more important.

I like to bust ballz. Please do not take anything I say seriously.
Thanks for the details but this is definitely something that I would be interested in once its a bit more refined (and frankly cheaper).

I read somewhere that one strut works too (you can split up the set).

Take care,
Paul

Joking on my end also. (I was not going to change back);)
Will have to try the one strut and see if easier to close and still work. Might wait till it gets colder to test here. If they just made an electric one.

...if they just listened to us NA kids and installed it from the factory - period.

V.A.G.I.N.A. never listens to its base - trust me, I know this for a fact.

I have a screw loose!

Well, more like a bolt.
Was on a trip this weekend and getting out of the car to gas up, my driver door made some creaking noise.
Looking at it the bolt holding the door stop arm was loose.
It is allowing the arm to move while opening and closing the door.
Picked up a Torx set and corrected the issue. Checked the other door and it was good.
Now I have my Torx set if needed.

FYI if you have a similar sound start.

I had this happen on my driver door about 800 miles into ownership. Very surprising.

I had the same issue on my golf. Drivers side went in less than 1000 miles. Now the passenger side is acting up at 6400miles.

Filling in my cracks!

For months before I received my car I would see this product in our local Walmart. It is called Drop Stop and is a Neoprene like tube that is used to fill the opening between the front seats and the center console ($9 each). The GTI has a very tight fit but there is still an opening. Because it is tight I have a hard time getting vacumn tools into it to clean anything out. To help keep it from filling up over the years I installed two this past week. It is a tight fit to get them in but they are very flexible and you just have to work with it. They match the interior well. When I vacumn, I just push them a little from side to side and can getup anything that has fallen. Mainly dust as we all know!

The tubes are very soft and flexible which will help them to not make rubbing noise as they touch the seat and console.

FYI :D

nice. you know the rubber thing at the base of the cup holder comes out so you can clean (or dry) it properly.... It appears that your is wet

Also (out of curiosity) where do you put your cell phone charger ?

My wife likes to mix unsweetened and sweet tea in my car.
Says she never spills!
Many talks have occurred over this, but after 25 years I guess I am not getting rid of her. I clean it once a week, just happened to be middle of the week.

Phone charger: I have a charger I keep in the center armrest that we both use since we have the same phone. I also have the short cable in front of shifter that when plugged in charges. I normally only use the front when I am driving longer distance which is not often. I did move the charging fuse down to activate the charging outlets. It is a pain to charge a phone if car must be running.

Cleaning: I keep the car fairly clean. Went in for 10,000 mile service and the service agent asked how I kept it clean. He said it looked like no one drives it.
But it is a daily driver that gets me to work.

Windshield Banner Mod

When I had my tints completed I held off on tinting the windsheld banner area because I wanted to try something different.
The first two pictures below are the inspiration.
Not sure how this will hold up over time but it does not take long to install and the Matt Black Banner cost under $10.

I did not want to appear boy racer at 50 years old, plus I do not race my car, so I decided on a lower impact mod and decided on matt black. I also looked at red and a couple VW banners. As stated they do not cost much and take under an hour to install. My first one was the full hour but I think I could do in under 30 min. Key items are to have a sharp cutting knife, and keep wet. The GTI is different than most cars I have had as the top of the windshield ends at the glass edge and does not have a rubber border to tuck the edge under. With this you have to cut using the edge of the glass so they line up perfect. Snag the film with a dull knife and you can cut uneven.

Only concern will be wear from wipers.
I have seen a camo banner on a truck and it had wear pattern from wipers. I cleaned windshield with rain-X and will try to limit wiper use to see how it goes. The more you use wipers the faster the rain-x wipes off anyway.

The banner was 6 inches wide.
My windshield banner edges ended up being just short of 6 inches.
The middle part clears the rain sensors by about an inch, so I could go lower. This brings the edge of the banner to the legal limit marked on windshield.
I would like it to be 1 inch lower but would need to find 8 inch wide banner to use.

I like it. Worked well with sun and from the inside I feel like I am in a race car all the time now.:D
For those who do not like reflections, the black backing on the windshield reflects some of the interior very well. You can see some of the gauge trim in it. For me it is not a problem. I am not looking in this area and at night, it is dark and has little reflection. The gauge lights do not show on it.

I may try some other banners, but for now I will see how this lasts.
If I had to replace every 6 months, would not be an issue for me.
For guys who auto-x this would be a fun item to install for weekend and if installed low would help with sun and glare.

The Bottom TT picture was also inspiration. I thought about red but in between black windhield and black sunroof did not look as good. I also would have to match the red line up front.

Parking Spot

Best spot to park in town!
I have read about the many parking lot dings and thought I would start a thread on best parking spots. Look for it if you want to add. My best is below.

Walmart.
The spot is at the back of the lot.
The curb protects the left side.
The light protects the front.
On the light is a sign warning about video camera's in use for security! :D
This spot is also about 5ft wider than most spots.
This helps with protection on the right side.

Yes someone can still hit me or park to close but they have to be an idiot or not a nice person.

I never take up two spots. I park in the back and walk.
