Sachs 4 puck- thoughts?

Not sure if this will help anyone, but I am about 600 miles into my Sachs 4 puck with dmf. I used to have the full face version.

Differences:

- 1st and reverse need more revs to get smooth
- engagement felt a bit easier in the previous clutch, but that is to be expected with a stronger material.
- 4 puck grabs gears excellently

Perfect clutch for higher hp builds, otherwise stage 2-3(is38) people should stick with the full face version which is amazing.

That F'n DMF is the weak point with either setup though. It's gonna get loose. Not if, it's when.

My last setup with the Sachs full face never slipped (gt2260s w hpfp) I only wanted to upgrade because I’m going e85 and plan on doing a lot of RAL and nls.

If it lasts me 40-50k miles I’ll be really happy tbh. What are you using now?

Yup… and now running a fresh DMF with 2 different aggressive grip discs I feel that the extra grip exacerbate’s the DMFs “wear” they both got pretty “loose” quickly and def get some extra noise. If I keep the car, I’ll probably go back to a SMF again… but also that’s cause I’m not trying to daily the car anymore so the tractor noise won’t bother me the same

I have a Vortex STD, but on a 1.8 so less torque. It hasn't slipped even on full E and RAL. But that DMF.... its not as bad as what the 4 puck did to it (it started clicking), but I can feel some looseness. I daily the car, so I may just FCP another exact same setup in there. The full face setup is THAT good for street. I just don't see how a SMF can be as streetable or quiet.

Yea, if my car were a race car, I'd def get rid of the DMF. FCP helps a bit. ;)

I will let you guys know how mine fairs. To be honest, I really didn’t want to get a south end clutch as I’ve seen some quality issues with them. Dropping the trans this second time was annoying lol

The Sachs stuff has really good manners and performance for like.. 30 to 40k before you'll need to consider replacing the flywheel. When I removed my 4 puck, the actual clutch plate looked new. The DMF.. not so much. haha.

Note: live in NYC though. I'll bet I shift gears much more than a lot of people. It's possible the DMF would live much longer in an area which doesn't require as much shifting as NYC does.

So after nearly 900 miles, I like the clutch in every gear except first and reverse. Man, I cannot get of the line without sounding like I shaking a trash can with rocks in it. Sometimes taking off at low rpm’s is better sometimes it’s not. It’s really inconsistent.

Wondering what your advice or anyone’s is on dealing with that, should I be slipping it to 2k? Or should I be taking off at low rpm as I have been (1100)

I've been running this clutch in my GSW with a DMF for 34k miles so far and it's been great. For me it likes higher revs starting out in first and reverse. I'm typically slipping it at around 2000-2500 and it's smooth as butter. It's always an adjustment when I jump into my Miata of my wife's BRZ and I'm back to driving with a "normal" clutch lol.

Guy doesn't know how to drive.
With a puck clutch discs they like high rpm dumps… or they judder like crazy. On my fx500 8 puck it wanted me to pretty much dump it at 2100 and I hated that so I feathered it like a regular full face disc and work the friction disc down in under 10k miles.

The clutch disc doesn't care if you slip it at high RPMs, the other mating surfaces will wear faster. The 4 puck was noisy at normal take off RPMs. I never really had a particular problem with it in reverse. The noise is why I went full face. The noise is "normal" with this clutch. My understanding that it's still quieter than other setups.

This is all news to me. I'll try to learn it before I destroy it hahahaha
