Reverse camera not fully opening

Hi there, but if a strange one that I haven’t found a solution to on the forums or elsewhere, the retrofit camera in my MK7 Golf isn’t opening as far as it should and 50% of the field of view is obscured by the body work where the camera hasn’t fully pivoted out.

I have removed, disassembled and got my head around how the mechanism works… basically there is a motor that turns a screw gear that turns some round gears that has attached a 1-2cm arm with a pin that pushes the camera unit down and out, inside the motor housing there is a micro switch that is activated by a profile on the underside of the final gear that has the arm/pin attached so as the gear rotated it eventually makes contact with the micro switch to tell the motor to turn off.

I was hoping to recalibrate the final gear and arm so it started another 30-40 degrees clockwise from the current starting position but the arm is connected to the gear with a pentagon shaped plug that is actually uneven so it only goes in one position and cannot be adjusted forward or back and given the profile on the arm gear is pre-set and the location of the micro switch also pre-set it’s not clear how I can get more rotation from the motor to push the camera module all the way out… it’s like the micro switch is being activated too early so the camera stops before it is fully extended and it’s not entirely clear why that wouldn’t be working.

Has anyone had any experience with this mechanism/motor and if there is a way to resolve this issue without resorting to a new motor or entire camera unit?

Thanks,
Wilson.
