Hey @mr-fix,

I am in a rare situation (couldn't find others online) in which my Golf GTE hybrid 2015 was equipped from factory with MIB1, big screen and USB hub 953.A.

I've retrofitted now MIB2.5 (harman) with 9.2 inch glass screen, component protection removed, but I'm confused about the new HUB 953.D I tried to install, it's not even charging the phone, in any of the two USB ports. I did not change anything on the original cables, just dremelled the blue connector to fit into the brown plug of the HUB. The USB connector is the small one, green, so no carplay chip inside.

Any idea what could be wrong?

Attaching pics for posterity. Thank you!

I got power on all ports on bench. Just by supplying GND, 12V power, and 5V trigger signal - on the 4 pin connector. So start with checking if there's 12V and 5V.

Thanks for the info, mystery solved in ELSA!

The old-preFL USB hub red plug pin order is 1,2,3 and the new FL hub has 1,2,4, so the signal pin needs to be moved.

Other than that everything else was plug-and-play and carplay works as expected on both USB ports.

I believe you can even use the 3rd port. Not for USB media playback (only USB1 and USB2 are visible in MEDIA source selection), but for CarPlay, AndroidAuto, D-Link, USB stick with maps (yeah, if you remove CID-LOCK on MST2 unit, you can run maps from USB stick instead SD card).
