Retrofitting Heated Steering Wheel

That price is about right, if not a little high. I don't know why they are showing it with an "original" price of $368. Well, I know why, haha, makes it look like a good deal.

But they are not including buttons, airbag, airbag harness or the KLR (touch) module. If you add those back in you're easily at $400-450 if not near $500.

I paid $440 over 2 years ago for all of that.

Make sure you order the replacement trim if you switch to physical buttons. It's different from the touch button trim.

Did you end up getting a complete wheel off eBay? I'm finding it tough to find the airbag, but everything else isn't too bad to piece together. I'm bugging the Aliexpress sellers because I want my wheel in alcantara, love the soft leather feeling haha.

Do you know if I buy the mk8 airbag cover, can I reuse my mk7 airbag?

Have to scan my module to see what clock spring I need.

I got a complete wheel from AliExpress, with Airbag.

I have not read (although also not looked, to be fair) about the airbags being the same (beneath the cover) so I can't help with that.

There is this though... https://parts.vw.com/p/Volkswagen__/Steering-Wheel-Air-Bag/97175563/3CM880201GXEA.html
With this style logo...

If you prefer the older logo you could then pick up this cover... https://www.ebay.com/itm/195045343933

It's wild, the same part in Canada is $700 https://www.vwpartsandservice.ca/p/...ng-Wheel-Air-Bag/103185857/3CM880201GXEA.html

Is the listing/seller for where you got the steering wheel still active? Could you post it? The only Aliexpress seller I could find that would include the airbag didn't have heating.

If you decide to get a custom wheel and want to source the airbag separately (at US prices, not CAD 😭) let me know. We can arrange it, I'll order then ship to you.

I am also surprised at how cheap these airbags are, might order a spare in case I ever want a custom wheel.

I already have a "spare" white steering wheel and airbag, from an ID4 first edition .

VW AG Store... https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256801824496071.html

Choose with airbag... this also means you have to do FedEx IP, which is not a bad choice for something this expensive anyway.

You will get an airbag with the new completely flat logo (which I like). I don't know whether they will do any custom (alcantara) wheel options, but you could ask.
Honestly compared to Canadian VW airbag prices thats a good price for the airbag alone and I get a free steering wheel with it 🤣

I messaged your seller to see if he can do a custom steering wheel. If not I might take you up on your offer, I really wanted an alcantara one (had one before and loved it).

Last question, for the steering wheel from this seller which ACC button did it come with? I've seen there's 2 options "car with speed gauge in front" and "car with circle around it" is there a particular one we need or does it not matter for the MK7?

ACC button is the same, in the middle of the last side buttons.

I assume you're talking about the button on the lower right side of the left set of buttons...

Car with speed gauge in front is a button to enable Travel Assist. You won't have this unless you also retrofit 2Q0 camera. Travel Assist puts together all of the assist functions (Lane assist, pACC, Traffic Jam Assist with follow to stop, and can use the touch sensors in the rim of the steering wheel so you can keep hands on but don't have to tug every so often).

Car with "circle" around it is a button to instantly bring up the assistant menu in the dash. I have stalks with a button for this. But if you don't have those stalks (and don't plan on doing 2Q0 camera for Travel Assist) you can get this option.

Note that whatever you choose you can turn the button on/off in coding as needed. When the button is off in coding it will not be displayed (illuminated) and nothing will happen if you press that area. I had the steering wheel heat button turned off until switched to the proper clock spring, for example.

Amazing thank you for the all the help, that was the only button I was confused about since I haven't seen it on a mk7. The 2Q0 camera retrofit is probably a bit too far outside my comfort/skill zone unless it's just plug and play haha. I was pretty happy on my mk7 with basic ACC + lane assist. If the button doesn't light up if it's not enabled at least it'll look nice, so thats perfect. Do the hands off module swaps work on MK7's? Look like they're only for MK8s.

Re airbag I'll bug you more once the seller responds haha.

The KLR (touch recognition) module works with Travel Assist. Right now latest will give you the alert to take control of the wheel every 10ish seconds. This requires you to put a little bit of turning to work on the steering wheel.

The touch recognition module uses capacitive sensors in the rim of the steering wheel to sense your hands. So you still have to keep your hands on the wheel, but you don't have to give it that little turning torque.

The 2Q0 camera, needed for travel assist is not plug and play. I still have not installed mine. I chose to get stalks with the button to bring up the driver assist menu. And then I got the steering wheel buttons that have the travel assist button. That button is currently deactivated. And when I eventually install the 2Q0 I will be travel assist ready.

Hello Everyone,

I was able to pick up a MK7 wheel to the the heated option finally and the EBAY photos weren't correct. I have found videos of taking apart the wheel to replace the buttons so I am not concerned with that aspect. The buttons on the LS of my NA wheel are different then my 5G0419091FH wheel... Do I need to replace the buttons on the 5G0419091FH wheel with matching ones or can I simply use the OEM NA buttons shown in the photo? TIA.

The buttons I've used have all been ecumenical - seem to fit and work with whatever wheel you have (provided, of course, it's the same basic design with that trapezoidal airbag). If the pictured buttons are what you have on your car and you haven't done anything with the cruise control features, your CC probably won't work if you use the buttons that came on the heated SW. You'll have to use the ones that came with your car. T10 or T8 screws hold them in - pretty easy to swap.

Sounds like I needed to replace them anyways to get CC to work so that is perfect. Thanks for the quick response! I didn't think those buttons were tied to the heated function itself.

I will find a new set of buttons so I can get that swapped ahead of time before I do the swap.

Normally buttons always physically fit. I had a non heated/flippers steeringwheel. Apparently the original buttons on my wheel had connectors for temperature sensor and flippers. So I transferred my buttons to a wheel with heater support, and that worked.

The buttons on LH and RH sides of the airbag are connected by a ribbon cable, but my memory is that one plugs into the other so they're not factory-tied to each other.
