fuck me right? lol
heres my short story, take it how you want, sure, i'm justifying myself some, sure i could have avoided some of these moves, but hey, its where i'm at lol. life is too short for one car every 10 years. variety is the spice of life. some people spent 60k on a brand new car and it depreciates 30k in 5 years. isn't that a stupid move too in some respects? some people have vast collections of cars they never drive or work on. is that as productive as my story? its all subjective.
- 2015 GTI - Was living with my dad he said it was 'too expensive to me' and to sell it, so i did cause that was fair since i was indeed under his roof and not very responsible.
- got 2012 gti for less than half the price, it was fast and fun, but the dsg was killing my soul after 4 years
- kept it for 2 more years and 'gave it' to my wife, got 2016 gti manual again
- realized 6-speed S4 was in my pricerange and had to get one, got one, loved it
- but sold it to help get a HOUSE
- and got jays mk5 jetta (tbh was a decent daily should have just kept it as a sidepiece since it wasn't worth much)
- then budget changed more than expected and realized MK7R (one of original dream cars) was attainable
- But it wasn't manual and yeah the turbo 'upgrade' deal sucked ass and not being able to pass emissions, i decided to sell it
- also wife didn't have a car so i bought the two s4's (b5 and b8) for less than what i sold the R for.
- b8 was too poor of condition overall and like i mentioned a few posts up, not well thought out for a 'good buy'. the b5, while the 'cleanest'/lowest mileage for the price, wasn't ultimately as advertised and had way too many headaches to be worth putting the serious coin into. alas, was able to sell them for what i had into them.
- so sell sell, baby on the way, get a cheaper MK5 to play with, was fine with keeping it, but had to sell since wife still needed a damn car to get baby to day care and we were seriously considering having her be a stay at home mom, so buying another car just wasn't really an option, so got her the tiguan.
- and here we are today. the car i most regretted selling was that 6-speed B8.5 S4.
Good price, good car, not perfect, but i haven't gotten to explore it yet. Its fast, rides generally great, doesn't need brakes, tires, or anything immediately far as i can tell having driven it 4 hrs today.
i even decided NOT to get a MK6R, my real 'original' dream car, because realistically, i now understand they just aren't that comfortable and practical, and don't ride as nice, and just dont quite have the fit-and-finish. the S4 trunk, while not as tall, fits a shit ton. And with a baby in the backseat most of the time, its not apples to apples to a small hatchback with the seat/s folded down.
its peak daily IMO.
