Well i am in for a world of fun today.

Left the car out in the rain one night, hadnt washed it since i got it. Next day it start getting a little... musty.

Wrnt a few days thinking nothing of it and then it got worse and worse, checked under floor mats, low and behold everythings wet.

Verified most connections (4 total drains) are loose and leaking.

So today im taking the whole headliner AND carpet out.

Oh, things are gorwing alright. Found out why passenger seat recline wasnt working, the connections all oxidized/corroded. So this has been an issue for sure.

Looking at this picture really reminds me how much “cheapening” VW has done to their modern cars… when I fell in love with VWs it was really in part that they were cost effective but did the little things that european engineered cars did that just gave the car a better feel and driver experience, something as little as flocked liner in the glove box / center console… down to what shows in this image the efforts for sound deadening. This older Tiguans got better factory sound deadening than something like @Acadia18 mk8 R , hell if it’s got a factory premium car audio option I’m sure that’s even better than VW’s current premium audio, when it comes to modern vw car audio I still always think how VWs most expensive recent sedan arteon got the same base radio as the base golf from a few years prior, even if it’s a base arteon that’s wild to find it acceptable to use the same components on the car that’s supposed to be the “luxury” vw - that whole mindset was applied to that car and it’s very clear why it failed. -rant off-

The “fender” in my autobahn mk6 gli still sounds great for a factory option - but when I was getting my 7.5 the GTIs with with the fender didn’t sound nearly and good as even that one from a 2012 model car. Lol

It has the HK one. Which sounds worse than the Fender one in the MK7/7.5. There's an entire thread on Vortex about how bad it is

So yesterday i got everything out, headliner, carpet etc.

Not sure if it was the best idea but i DOUSED the whole carpet and underlayment in water, some mold and mildew killer, carpet cleaner, and white vinegar, agitated, rinsed, extracted. Let it all drip dry over our fence overnight. The carpet seems about dry, i have no clue how long it will take the underlayment/insulation to fully dry. Hope it does dry and i dont massively regret it.

If all else fails should i just get carpet padding from menards and do a rough refit? Lol

The sunroof drain hoses did indeed shrink a little, pulling 3 of the 4 out of their exit grommets. The actual connections at the sunroof are also janky, simple pressfit rubbery/plastic deals that i dont trust at all, so im doing kind of a glue/silicone thing with hose clamps for reconnection, let it all cure with the extended hoses and retest quite a bit before putting it all back together.

Also found out why the passenger seat recline wasnt working, the plug has taken in some water before and the connections all green and oxidized

Yeah personally, I wouldn’t reuse the jute pads, the carpet sure if it’s clean real well… also may as well do some cheap sound deadening work to floors will some Amazon CDL type product since you got the thing and ripped up anyways.

i know right LOL i was thinking the same thing. Luckily she is very scared of mold and mildew so she's down with it
