removal of battery without alarm going off

This is going to sound really dodgy, but i can assure you its not.
I wanted to take the battery out to charge it up in the kitchen overnight. But no matter what i tried the alarm was going off.
Where is the power coming from for the alarm? how can i turn off the alarm? the key in the drivers door only locks that, not the rest, i can't seem to manually lock the other 3 doors.
I tried locking the car, removing battery and using the key in the drivers, but alarm went off, hmm actually now i am wondering if its was as the bonnet was still open that triggered it. In the end i have had to put the charger in the engine compartment.

I was just curious as to how you are suppose to turn the alarm off, but also where is the power coming from for the alarm in the first place.

also on a side note, i just watched a Youtube vid, where the guy says you have to recode the car to tell it you have a new battery???? Is that a thing?

Alarm siren has back up capacitors built in to sound the alarm if the battery is removed & the car is locked.

If you remove the battery you have to leave the car unlocked..

& yes you have to recode the BCM to tell the car has a new battery ..you are in the UK so most likly have "stop start" auto engine shut off (bluemotion)...

All info in first post here:-
How to retro-fit a bigger capacity battery to a Mk7 Golf | GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum

VCDS coding required
From the Main screen:-
Select Control Module [Select]
[19-CAN Gateway]
Advanced Functions screen:-
[Adaptions-10]
New value choice screen:-
Change the following four channels, inputting the relevant data about the new battery.
IDE03256-MAS06105-Battery adaptation-Rated battery capacity
IDE03256-MAS06106-Battery adaptation-Battery technology
IDE03256-MAS06107-Battery adaptation-Battery manufacturer
IDE03256-MAS06108-Battery adaptation-Battery Serial Number

When you click on "Battery technology" (using VCDS 21.3.0) a drop down list appears with the following options (= actual meaning):-
Wet = Standard Lead Acid
Fleece = Standard A.G.M.
Wickel6V
Wickel12V
Ultracap
Gel = Standard Gel Lead Acid
Lithium ions = Standard LiFePO4
EFB = Standard E.F.B.
Binary - AGM = "Bipolar" A.G.M. type
EFB+ = E.F.B. "Plus" type

According to various sources of information, including numerous car scans & threads on Ross-Tech, "Fleece" is for standard AGM batteries, "EFB" is for standard EFB batteries, & "Wet" is for standard lead acid batteries, as these settings are used at the factory. The setting of "Binary - AGM" is apparently for specialist "Bipolar AGM" batteries! Also the drop down list is from VCDS & not generated by your car's BCM, therefore, your car may not support all the options on the list, & the BCM will reject the value when you tell it to accept it!

Battery BEM codes are now redundant with the above separate channels. The most important channels are:- Rated battery capacity, Battery technology, & Battery Serial Number. For the Battery Serial Number, just change one digit of the old one. This channel tells the BCM that a new battery has been installed & to relearn the new battery & forget any “learnt values” for the old battery!

Thank you GOLFDAVE, that guide is very infomative. THe current battery i have is the OEM exide one, the car has been acting strange of late, electrically. I make the battery 6yrs old but i have put it on charge for a few hours to make it happy.

dunno if its worth the extra go up bigger battery, but vcds i have often thought about getting this, which is the best lead to get? I read so much about some don't do everything? I assume you have one, isnt the software free ? so its just the usb to obd2 connector, or a bluetooth option maybe to a laptop, just wondering if it will be more beneficial in the end instead of getting an obdeleven ? All i have atm is an OBD2 reader

You can fit the same case size but go for a better quality AGM..or go for the bigger case size as I did...

If you read all of that first post I explain why I chose the biggest case size & AGM....your car may not have all the electric load & driving conditions that I have..so may not be worth the extra cost....up to you.

OBD11 is mobile phone based & there appears to be pop up ads & god knows what else...

I have had VCDS (Ross-Tech) cable for years now..I do some freelance work in my spare time...

They do a Bluetooth dongle which requires a tablet or smart phone...I have the USB cable which requires a laptop...which I prefer

Here is the UK place I got mine from..they list various Ross-tech packages...software is free, but the latest for the MQB platform (ours) only works with their cables..

Hmm i thought, you had to replace like for like? or is it more you can't put a EFB battery into an AGM oem car? I just been quoted £143 for eco battery 1yr warranty or £202 for non eco ( 2yr warrenty) plus £65.62 for ODIS to be plugged in from dealer i bought car from. Hence me asking lots of questions and trying to do research along with things like what Halfords suggest along with others from my REG. AGM ones appear to be more powerful than the EFB i must admit i am old school re battery, all this start/stop tech no idea how it works.

AGM is better than EFB....

.....Stop/start function requires EFB or AGM....
