Rear seat panel drainage

Hi all,

I hope this is the correct forum. I have a golf mk7.5 2017. Recently a bottle of wine smashed in the boot of my car and my car has been smelling of wine ever since. I cleaned the boot from wine.

However, since then, I’ve realised that the wine has in fact found it’s way to the underneath of the rear seat bench, where it has pooled, and also been absorbed by the rear seat foam. Having taken the rear seats out and cleaned the pool of wine under the seats, I’m still getting a wine smell in the car.

I’ve found what I now believe is the new culprit of the smell, where I believe the wine has seeped into the hole, filled by the grey plug, shown in the images below. My question is, what is the drainage system underneath this plugged hole? Is it likely for the wine to be stagnant underneath the rear seat panel, or would it drain out if I was to pour more water into there? Secondly, regarding the black covering, is it possible to remove that to get access to underneath the panel? Images below should help detail where I’m talking about.

I can definitely smell wine coming from the area circled in the photos.

Finally,

Any tips on how to get the smell out of the rear seat foam?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Isn't that the fuel pump? If so there plenty of write-ups for that area.

As for the foam extract it as best as you can and let it sit in the sun for a day or two. Hopefully that helps

Just done some research and it appears so. Thank you !

My concern now is just the area circled in the photos. Hoping somebody knows a thing about the body in white and potential drainage in that area
